Audio out of sync

Hello, sorry about the delay in response. We are still in the development phase, testing data collection mechanism on this issue internally. There is no obvious fix and we might need more time on this.

Hello. Sorry for the delay in response. We are still testing for fixes internally.
If possible, could you help send a log and an out-of-sync video clip to me at hzuo@wyze.com?
Also, are you observing this issue when viewing from Playback page, or directly from SD Card on a computer?
Thank you.

Seems like this is one of the fundamental things that would have just been working during the development of the product and testing before releasing to the public. I have new cameras from Wansview that work much the same and the audio is spot on, they also record audio and video separately so maybe contact their development team for some insight, it really shouldn’t be such a complicated issue I just assume wyze isn’t prioritizing it? This shouldn’t be a feature we have to wait for it should have been right at release date.

I’ve been having this problem since I purchased my V2s as well and now I am needing to monitor something on the property and it’s become a real problem.

All audio is out of sync and I get the end of minute drop outs and then some entire minutes are missing from Playback. Out of a ten minute clip, I might get 6-7 minutes of audio. All broken up.

I would open a case but it seems from the convo here Wyze is well aware of the problem and it’s not specific to me.

I confirm this issue as well. I have 2 V2 cams & they exhibit a 3-4 seconds audio lag when viewing a recording on the SD card. 1 sec lag is acceptable but it gets pretty bad in its current state.

Hope they issue a fix soon!

@ArthurH do you still need samples of out of sync audio? I tried to email you but I didn’t get a response.

I haven’t checked to compare directly off the SD card but I recorded a video the other day and stored it on my phone. I pulled that video out and dropped it into an editor program and managed to sync the audio and video streams only to find out after a couple of minutes that they were out of sync again! It is like the audio is recording on a clock that runs faster than the video.

Any updates on the test firmware to rectify this issue?

Two different issues, I think. The thread is about loss of audio sync, but you appear to be talking about the cancellation of microphone audio, which I believe is there to prevent feedback issues. Unless they change that (which I hope they do), you would need a second nearby cam to hear the microphone audio on a recording.

Any updated info on this? I have three retail stores that I have been waiting to put cameras in, and I cannot wait much longer. If Wyze is not going to address this sync issue, then I am going to have to ditch the 8 I already have and look elsewhere for solutions. This is important…have to agree with others above in that basic functionality needs to be worked out before worrying about bells and whistles.
Any answer Wyze?

It is both, and repeatable each and every time, at every physical location I have running cameras. All have different internet providers, and router types, so I would think it should be obvious in your labs. If not, can you please share with all of us the gear you are using?

FWIW I have 7 cams running on a Linksys Mesh system with 3 nodes on Xfinity cable using the not-so-great Xfinity modem, and my audio and video are in sync (within a second)

Mine aren’t. This is an old problem on a lot of cameras. In sync on 12-second clips only, otherwise it’s random. Wyze has acknowledged the problem and is working on it.

Not an issue with any other camera like this I’ve ever used. The camera brands in which this is a problem should have never made it to market. Terrible audio sync issues.

I’ve had this problem since I bought my first cameras about a year ago. Hopefully there is a fix on the way eventually.

I will have to mess with it more, I don’t listen to the sound a whole lot, so it is possible the times I have it was on 12-second clips which you say are in sync

Yes, there are several situations where you can hear audio: Live stream, playback, save of playback to your device, from an SD card in a PC, and the 12-second cloud clip. In my experience, only the cloud clip is normally in sync, or close to it.

I have been able to get a saved playback clip to be in sync (or close to it), but the only way I’ve been able to do that is save the clip several times (regardless of whether or not it is in sync on playback), and then see which of the saves is the closest. It varies.

If you want to test your cams, just walk in from of one and talk, or clap your hands randomly. Then save the playback clip to your device. In doing that, you will see both playback mode and playback from your device’s video storage area. Unless randomness smiled on you, they will probably both be out-of-sync, and not necessarily the same way. I can sometimes get the sound to precede the action, but most of the time it lags.

BTW, I use an AC-capable router, and a shiny new 2018 256GB iPad that is still sold as the current model.

Audio and video streams are separate. Each is recorded and then chunks of them are interleaved into one file.

A prefect recording requires two encoders (one for audio, one for video), recording fast enough to stay ahead of the overhead needed to store the data and another process to interleave the storage and track everything. Perfect playback requires a process to read the data, decide if it is audio or video, then send it to two decoders and play them.

A problem with any of those six processes can degrade performance. Often, players will drop chunks of video to keep it in sync with the audio because humans are more sensitive to stuttering audio than inconsistent video.

With all this going on, it’s a wonder that digital video works at all.

Having the exact same issue but my audio is also terribly out of sync for videos pulled straight from the SD card (Class 10). I am going to have to return my WYZE V2 and go with another brand since this appears to have been a reported issue for nearly a year without a fix in sight.
