you can link it to one or many cameras so that when it senses motion it will tell that/ those cameras to start recording. the benefit to the sensor vs the camera is the way it detects motion. the cameras will be triggered by ANYTHING MOVING ( leaves, shadows, headlights. etc.) because the camera tracks motion as changes in a percentage of pixels vs the sensor which will detect changes in ambient heat. so cloud shadows, leaves and things that don’t actively radiate heat should not set it off. I used them on my porch and no longer get 2 million false notifications from cars passing on the street.
See my previous post of 5/29. At that point the physical operation of my four contact sensors were perfect. BUT as soon as I had written my post a sensor went bad. It apparently missed an event and now open is closed and closed is open! I assumed there would be a simple software reset that could be given. Not true! On a chat with Wyze support the only method suggested to correct this is to delete the sensor and and do a physical reset (Pin) of the contact sensor and then reinstall. NOT A VERY USER FRIENDLY SOLUTION.
MORE ON NOTIFICATIONS: As stated in my previous post (5/29) the lack of control of notifications is a disaster! Without being able to turn notifications on and off by time of day the product is nearly useless for many applications. This weekend we had a party, My contact sensors are on sliding doors going from the interior to a large deck. 30 people at the party about 5 transits each in and out. What to you get: 300 notifications and video clips. It took me 30 minutes to delete the video clips and of course you can’t delete the actual open/close notifications. What a mess! The good news is I had deleted the failed contact sensor, and therefore didn’t get notifications from that sensor.
Hello
Only 1 door sensor in use at the time.
Absolutely no problems. Working as advertised for over 3 weeks now.
About 50 feet away from camera. It triggers recording when door is open and send alert on phone.
Thanks
I have 18 Contact Sensors hooked up.
17 on all my Windows in my house, 1 on my Garage door.
They work perfectly.
The only gotcha is that I replaced the adhesive that Wyze has on them, and put 3M Command Strips on instead.
This solved any issues of the sensors falling off/moving. (My Garage door sensor had that problem)
I am waiting on the Water Sensors and Temp Sensors by Wyze to finish setting up my house with sensors that I care about.
PS: Still wish they were mesh/zigbee, so that there were backup routes in case one of my cams goes down/offline.
I have 9 sensors installed and working, had battery go bad in one but was easily replaced, had one that blink 5 times and could not pair it with anything, had two that would only sense opened and not closed. For those two, I put a piece of foam on the battery and snapped the cover shut. I thing the battery was rattling when the door was closed, so far they are registering open and close now, only time will tell. I have 6 more sensors that I am looking to put somewhere.
To be fair, I have 5 bridges installed as well for maximum coverage. I have 6 motion sensors I have done nothing with yet.
Also 13 cameras installed. Hey, I should be getting a Christmas Card from Wyze for all this business😁
Have 1 bridge installed one motion and 1 door sensor all working perfect including recording of cameras selected. Working on getting an IFTTT applet setup to send alert to my cell phone making a sound. Would be great to find one that made a sound come from the camera selected…
I initially had issues with the bridge dropping contact with sensors. Turned out to be that both cams I had tried - a pan and a V2 - were powered by longer cables. Switched to a cam on the original cable and all is well. Must have been a voltage drop problem.
I have issues every 5 days or so. No RF issues. Good batteries. Solid connections and close to camera hubs. But they stop working.
that sounds like some sort of signal interference if it is so regular. do you have a lot of IOT things in your home?
hi there, my Contact sensors have been installed & running for a month now, & i cant say they ever missed any open/close change in status.
ramseyerp, if you are still interested, IFTTT can talk to the pushover app. you can use that to choose different sounds based on which camera / contact sensor triggered the IFTTT. so just hearing discrete beeps from your phone you know whats going on at home.
I have several working flawlessly…
I have sensors on all entry doors that tell me when they are used.
The sensor on the entry door from the attached garage will also activate a Wyze Plug when it is opened. The plug will stay on for 30 minutes and then turn off.
I have a motion sensor in the downstairs powder room that triggers two Wyze Bulbs. After 15 minutes, they turn off.
I have do have a sensor that doesn’t work. It is less than 20 feet from the bridge but on a different floor of the house. This is supposed to turn on the light in the master bedroom closet, which is set to turn off after 15 minutes. I am guessing, I need a new bridge for the second floor of the house.
The motion sensors seem pretty solid, but I’m throwing in the towel on the contact sensors. The coil/magnet seems to require an unrealistic proximity, such that I can’t find anywhere feasible on my garage door (so it’s always “open”). And a brand new (replacement) sensor on my mailbox just notified of battery being low after <3mos, which is a bit hungry for my taste.
I’m a huge fan of the Pan Cam, the light bulbs and the motion, tho, so it’s not overall good. And once the motion + schedule trigger/rule is GA, it’ll make things much less beta.
Flawless… mostly. I’ve had to “excise” some material from door molding to get one set to line up. Added a bracket to another door to span the over large gap between door and jamb. Just takes a little creativity, and maybe some extra hardware on occasion… and some different, better, double-sided tape for sure.
4 sensors now setup and continue to work without a problem. One extremely busy door was flashing and alerted me to change the battery. I must say I am extremely pleased with both the motion and contact sensors… so for the busy door it lasted from May to December on the door that is likely opened 50 times a day…
Hello gurleycm.
I came across this post that I think would make your garage door issues and anyone else with the contact sensor go away.
Wyze sensor demo with garage door
It is a beautiful system.
