I use my two OG Zoom cameras more than any other. Does anyone know if Wyze intends to ever create an updated version of their zoom camera with higher resolution perhaps?
I have not seen anything mentioned. It doesn’t seem to have been a terribly popular camera, I do find mine useful but the scenarios for it are limited.
Personally I’m hoping they’ll create a 2.5k or 4k cam with at least 3x variable optical zoom, maybe one with pan and tilt too.
I’m interested in a higher res telephoto cam that can record for 1-2 hrs on battery power only. Just mount it on a tripod and press record. Doesn’t need to track anything, just record. The regular Wyze cams have the fisheye effect because of wide angle, great for secureity but doesn’t look good for surfing or sports.
Just a thought.
Cheers!
The amount of compression on these cams would not make them useful for recording yourself surfing etc. There are plenty of other cams designed for that which will look much better and not need internet connectivity. Right tool for the right job.
I’m hoping that one day, Wyze will offer a new Outdoor cam with telephoto that runs on battery power. No Wi-Fi at the beach, just stick it on a tripod, press record and save it to a flash card. Review video later when the battery runs out. Nothing fancy.
Haven’t researched other cams, but Wyze’s price point is right for me.
Honestly for your use case, the compression in these cams is going to result in lousy videos most likely. I would look into GoPro and the like - yes more expensive but they’re designed to do exactly what you’re looking for.
Wyze isn’t going to release a cam like you’re asking with no internet - at least not at the price point the others are at. These are cloud cams, they require internet to work, and the goal is to upsell you to a cloud plan. A standalone cam would end up probably not being much cheaper than a GoPro.
Look at the v3 Pro. The only thing it added was onboard Person detection (usually reserved for subscribers) and that cam is double the price of the v4 which has better specs.
