Allow all smart options to be available in Alexa for notifications (Person, Pet, Vehicle, Package, etc)

I have a Wyze camera with Cam Plus. I can get it to make Alexa announce “Person Detected” when the camera detects a person, But it won’t make Alexa announce when a pet is detected. Is there some setting I am not seeing to make this happen?

I was going through the Alexa App. It looks like only Person will trigger Alexa. you may be able to use IFTTT, but not sure on this.

The Wyze Alexa skill only has Person Detection capability. Pet, Vehicle and Package notifications via Alexa are not yet available. I do get push notifications to my phone for these detections (if set in the Wyze app) but no voice announcements via Alexa.

I agree William. It would be nice if the folks at Wyze could augment the functionality of their Alexa skill to enable pet detection notifications through the Amazon Echo devices. An alert from Alexa (triggered by Wyze) when the dog is at the door waiting to come in would be a cool feature.

I also agree, this is an important feature. If I look this feature on other camera, I’m gonna say goodbye to all my wyze cams.

Agreed! My driveway is on the side of my house, out of view from my front window. So it’d be nice if I could get a notification for Amazon cars and visitors without notifications of my kid playing in the driveway.

Wyze, please enable Alexa to announce when a pet is detected!

Totally agree. 2 years later this uncionality is still pending. PLease its necessary to improve the skills between wyze and alexa to be able not just to detect persons, but all wyze cams capabilities.

Thanks!!

I wouls also agree it was a feature i had with ring but miss with wyze. I am asking and so is my cat. Thanks in advance.

While waiting for this feature to be enabled, You could setup a Wyze Color Light to, for example Flash Green, then Stay on Green for 1 Minute, when a specific Camera detects a Pet. (Or in my case, my Pets are: Coyotes, Raccoons, Mice, Rats, Possum, Bobcats, Birds, Lizards and Rabbits, etc.)

In my case, the rule to trigger a light to flash and stay on for a minute is preferable, or Alexa would be Alerting way to many times with my multiple cameras setup outside to see all my “Pets”

Dear Wyze team.

Skills with Alexa still quite basic after 3 years. Wyze Cam fans (as me) are loosing a lot of opportunities to improve home control just because integration with Alexa is limited to Person detection. Please!, one skill improvement is not so much right? THANKS

This is far more than just an issue with pet detection – the integration should support ALL tags on events as triggers.

If implemented properly, there shouldn’t be any need to go in and update things as new tags are added.

2025 …and this feature is still lacking/missing

Continuing the discussion from Will pet detections announce on Alexa:

I used to get vehicle and pet detection, but I’ve noticed that probably since the first of the year Pet and vehicle detection are no longer available with Alexa.

I am wondering if they limited the services integrated with all of their other similar product offers or just with Wyze?

Vehicle detection was very helpful to announce visitors prior to the ringing the doorbell or getting out of the car, it was especially helpful when a delivery truck approached the house before a package was sighted.

Is this something that Wyze pays extra for and is in its agreement with Alexa to Amazon or is it just a reduction in offered services across the board?

Up until just recently, I got vehicle notifications for my cameras. It appears that now only package and people notifications are being done by Alexa at this point. Has anyone else noticed a change and is there anything we can do to continue or establish vehicle notification again?

Alexa has never performed vehicle notifications in my experience, just person, doorbell press and now package. Is it possible you created a routine in Alexa for your notification? I created a Wyze automation with a spotlight cam for vehicle notification because I couldn’t get the Alexa voice on echo for them.

From what I can see, there is no way to create a routine or notification within Alexa for vehicles. The default appears to be “people” only.

Actually, this is why I’m on the forum looking for this very same solution. I need to create routine whereby “if motion (vehicle) is detected by the camera, then turn on a smart Life device.

If WYZE Alexa skill would allow for a drop-down list of Person, Pet, Vehicle or Package the routine opportunity within Alexa increase dramatically

Please make sure you vote for this Wish Item, one has not been added automatically.

Hello I tried searching the forum and wasn’t able to find anything regarding WYZE Alexa skill to also include Pet, Vehicle or Package with the V4 camera? This would allow endless opportunities to utilize a WYZE device (camera) within Alexa.

Currently I’m trying to setup a routine whereby if my camera sees motion (vehicle), then turn on a Smart Life (light switch) device, but only between sunset and sunrise, and then turn off after 10 minutes.

Any work arounds besides IFTTT? Have a hard time paying a $108 yearly subscription fee for one applet

This seems like something else that should be possible using a Wyze Plug (or Plug Outdoor) as a logical switch to act as a bridge between Wyze Automations and Alexa Routines, and you’d incur only a one-time charge for the device instead of an ongoing subscription fee. You could do this with one Wyze Plug outlet, one Wyze Device & Service Trigger Automation, and two Alexa Routines:

Wyze Plug

  • Plug () this into an outlet so that it has power and a Wi-Fi signal.
  • This should not be powering anything (shouldn’t have anything plugged into it), because you’re not using it to control power to a device. You’re using it only as a logical switch to effect another action and bridge to the Alexa ecosystem.
  • If you’re using a Plug Outdoor, you get two logical switches in a single device (more on this later)!
  • Note that this must be a Wyze Plug (or Plug Outdoor), because the Wyze Automation initiating this cascade of events needs to directly control the device. You can use other brands of smart plugs that Alexa can see and control later in the chain (if you want to change up the results and activate another type of plug instead of a smart switch, for instance), but you need a Wyze Plug to make the jump from Wyze Automations to Alexa Routines.

Wyze Device & Service Trigger Automation

  • IF
    • Wyze Cam
      • Detects a vehicle
  • DO
    • Wyze Plug
      • Turn on for 10 minutes
  • WHEN
    • Time
      • Start Time at Sunset
      • End Time at Sunrise

Amazon Alexa Routines

    • WHEN
      • Wyze Plug: Turned On
    • ALEXA WILL
      • Smart Life (light switch)
        • Power: On
    • WHEN
      • Wyze Plug: Turned Off
    • ALEXA WILL
      • Smart Life (light switch)
        • Power: Off

Again, the Wyze Plug is just a logical switch/bridge to the Amazon Alexa ecosystem in this scenario and isn’t being used to directly control power to a device. You’re using the Plug itself as a signaling device: The Wyze Cam triggers the Wyze Plug in a Wyze Automation, and the Wyze Plug triggers the Smart Life switch via an Alexa Routine. If you use a Wyze Plug Outdoor, you get two logical switches in one device, which gives even more options:

  • Use one socket as a trigger for vehicle detection and the other socket as a trigger for person detection (with appropriate Wyze Automations and Alexa Routines in place).
  • Use one socket as a trigger/bridge to Alexa and the other socket like a regular smart plug (i.e., actually powering some device that you want to turn on/off).
  • Roll your own scenario!

It’s been a while since I’ve checked, but at times in the past the Plug and Plug Outdoor have had crazy clearance prices at Home Depot, so that might be a good place to pick some up just to have on hand for this sort of thing.
