My cams also caused problems on my wifi with devices struggling to connect to my wifi, I had an old Huawei WIFI router so I setup it with the same SSID, then changed my main ubiquity WIFI ssid to something new. Finally I switch all devices to my new SSID but left all 3 my wyzecams on the old WIFI router.
Guess what! My wifi works without issues, and the cams do work most of the time. The cameras now run on different frequencies than the rest of my setup do not interfere. The WIFI module in the cameras probably do not implement a good wifi protocol as it kills connectivity for other devices, I guess it is to be expected when they are built to be cheap
I think I’m having the same problem. I have a fairly new linksys AC1200 with 6 cameras and anywhere from 6-10 other devices (phones laptops) on the same band. I go to check in on the app, and I see they are all offline. When I restart the router they all come back online. I’m not absolutely sure it is the cameras, but I don’t think this was happening before their installation.
I will also confirm that devices can and do fall offline while my other devices are fine.
I’ve taken the proactive step of monitoring various devices and based on several factors. automations are triggered to reboot routers and cameras sequentially.
This has successfully prevented any major issues, but it has proven to be my Wyze devices that are the culprits. As stated by many others on this forum, I have a mix of brands and products, many in the same class as Wyze (sensors, cameras, etc), I monitor uptime on anything that I deem either important or anything that has failed to execute as expected. I use home assistant to log each devices uptime, response time, etc. my Wyze cams are ten times more prone to failure (simply defined as unavailable to perform the function for which they were designed). Granted that I also have redundancy, so their failures have not resulted in any significant issues.
It’s become apparent that with the amount of users reporting these same real world experiences and examples, the anecdotal has become beyond just statistically significant and now points to negligence and willful disregard of responsibility by ignoring their users reports and simply running the actuarial tables deciding that most products should last the warranty period, so all’s good.
I bought a cheap second hand WIFI router with only 2,4Ghz, configured a separate access point for my Wyze cameras only. My home wifi now works 24/7 and I am also able to always connect to my cameras 24/7. Cheap solution to an annoying problem. I am also in the process of installing POE cameras with Frigate NVR Software that will do person detection and be able to notify on openHAS server. I was hoping that Wyze would get there but I gave up along the way. Will be selling my Wyze cameras soon
