It would be great if the device model name could be added to each item listed on the Firmware Update page for those of us who don’t remember the picture of each item.
There’s all sorts of ideas to solve this without complicating the name. Of course you need to remember your own code. You might put a - or _ or * or ^ before or after its name, so you can recognize the model.
(I for instance put a - before the name of a file shortcut or program shortcut on my computer’s desktop.) I save all the files to a separate externally connected SSD. And use a shortcut on the desktop to open the folder or the file versus having the file on the deskop or the C: drive. It takes just a fraction of a second to open longer than on the desktop. But I know the data is safer not stored directly on the computer or worse on the computer’s C: and the desktop.) And on those occasions the file is still on the desktop, no - so I know I have not done my job.
I have the camera number (in order of activation) and camera model as the first few characters of the camera name for every camera. For example: 31v3 - Family room PC or 38v3Blk - Front porch. That of course shows up in many locations.
I realize that we can set up Codes to do this. I did it for a while.
Thanks for sharing your patterns.
Every device has device info and they have a field that is the name of the camera.
It can’t be too difficult to just add it as a field in a few more places .
You’re welcome. It’s not something I’d be likely to get a lot of use out of because of the way I name my own cameras[1], and I wouldn’t expect everyone to use the same scheme that I use, so I can certainly see the usefulness of adding this information, especially for users with smaller phone screens (maybe difficult to differentiate the device icons) and/or larger numbers of devices. I gave 'er a vote.
The camera devices have the model in the name but I actually organize and use them by having them in groups—even though some groups have only a single camera—and each group name is more of a location descriptor. ↩︎
