There is a new wifi network in europe, it is calles wifi 7, there are two bands available 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz, i can’t find any article anywhere to see if by changing to this network my wyze v2 and pan cam will still work. I read that the new network has WPA3. Is there someone out there who knows ?
These are the details
Connectivity
Fiber, ADSL2+, or VDSL2 compatible, depending on eligibility
Fiber Wi-Fi 7, MU-MIMO, Dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)
WPA3 standard (latest-generation encryption protocol)
Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy
Connections
3 RJ45 Ethernet ports (1 Gbits + Power, 1 Gbits, and 2.5 Gbits)
RJ11 DSL connector
SFP port reserved for fiber optics
USB Type-C power port, new standard
RJ11 connector (Freebox landline)
USB3 port
The v2 cam is not compatible with Wifi 6, 6e, 7, or WPA3. It will connect to an access point with those specs, but only because every wifi generation is backwards compatible.
Only a couple new cams are compatible with Wifi 6 and that’s on 2.4ghz only usually. I believe there is only one cam (or possibly doorbell) that supports 5ghz. Those specific cams should be compatible with WPA3 also.
Your v2 is a Wifi 4 device and does not support WPA3, 5ghz, etc. So it will work with the newer wifi routers but it will operate at Wifi 4 speeds and capabilities.
You can see what each wyze device supports by looking at the specs page for them.
Typically right on the product page or google, but that cam is pretty old so may be harder to find detailed info on it. But it is Wifi 4 (802.11n) 2.4ghz only. WPA2 only, no WPA3.
They don’t have any Wifi 6e or 7 cams yet, but any of the cams should work fine on a Wifi 7 router, as long as you don’t enforce WPA3 on it (WPA2/3 transition mode can also be problematic, it may work, it may not). If you want WPA3 for your other devices, you can enable that on your main network and set up a guest network with WPA2 for older devices.
