Hey, folks.

I’m going to open this thread again but please keep our community guidelines in mind. If you feel as if someone is breaking them, please flag the post so that the mods can step in instead of escalating. Please keep this in mind in the future, @hmh100. But we’re listening and we don’t discount requests just because other people are happy with the status quo. We won’t do everything people want but we do listen!

@qlang243, while you have some valid points, the way you’re presenting them is more aggressive than it needs to be and some of your comments were reiterations that didn’t add to the conversation and are more likely to just frustrate the person they’re directed at. We would appreciate it if you adjusted your approach in the future.

@hmh100, at this point, we can’t have notifications for microSD card recordings that don’t have Event videos. Our notifications are generated in the cloud as a response to a video uploading. We are sorry that your Wyze Cam didn’t catch the footage you needed or provide the other notification.

For learning more about our features, you may want to check out the User Guide in the support site. Here’s a link!

They could eliminate the 5 min cooldown period and still save money on cloud computing costs if they would implement the suggestions in other threads about increasing the duration of motion required to trigger motion/recording/upload/12 second counter to events over 1 second.

Another work around for this, is to connect wyze cam to a motion sensor, that when motion sensor detects motion, certain camera comes on, the motion sensors have a shorter cool down, just a thought, for now, but I agree, adding this, wouldn’t hurt wyze, because its saving to the micro sd card, so I wouldn’t think it would use/need data/bandwith for that, if it does need bandwith, its not much, just enough to ask/communicate with the server, you could make it, something just with the hardware side/app, and not wyze server side, but I don’t know if they would want to do that, due to security, meaning everything the wyze cam/devices do, most likely go through a server, to help verify requests, beyond just device IDs.

Anyway yeah that would be nice.

I have a few several years old D-Link DCS-936L cameras that perfectly record on the microsd 20 seconds clips of anyone walking up to my front door, The Wyze camera can’t do that because of the cool down period. A person’s car park in front of my house and the Wyze camera starts recording then less than 5 minutes later he walks to my front door and there is no recording of that because of the 5 minutes cool down.

I would suggest give the ability to control or turn off the cool-down for local storage recording. Of course leave the cloud cool-down.

There is no cool-down when recording to the SD card, it can record continuous or will record all events even within the 5-minute cloud cool down

Ah. Thanks for that info. Does that mean that the captured events are not only 12 seconds like when on the free cloud?

Event recording to sd card will record the full minute (##:00 to ##:59) to where a motion trigger falls. If the motion carries past the top of the minute, the full next minute will save aswell. Also note that you don’t get notifications from local storage events. Only cloud events are what you get notifications of

I am not worried about notifications from local. I just wanted to know if the local event is going to be 12 seconds when using the cloud event recording as well, or does it continue beyond the 12 seconds?

Cloud storage and local storage operate Independant of each other. You can have one, both or neither on at any time. Local storage will continue recording the full minute if using events only or all the time in using continuous regardless of whatever cloud storage is set at. This is for anything but the WCO. What camera are you using?

I have 5 v3s and a pan cam. I do not have the Outdoor. Wasn’t impressed with it, but I was with the v3. I do not see anyway to have event recording local without event recording to the cloud. There isn’t a setting for cloud storage. I get cloud to work by turning on event recording. So, cloud and local are not completely independent.

If you click on the gear and go into the camera settings, then click event recording, that’s is where you disable or enable cloud recording (as shown on the left side below). If you click on advanced settings, then local storage, that is where you enable event recording or continuous recording to the sd card (and local storage itself, as shown in the right side of the image below).

Cloud only turns on with event recording. You can record continuously regardless of event recording locally. There is no way to have event recording without cloud saves. You can do local record on events, but you have to turn on events which turns on cloud. So they are connected and not completely independent. There is no way to have event recording without cloud storage. Yes you can record events locally, but it will also save to the cloud. And if turning on event recording locally does turn on events, it isn’t all that clear. Doesn’t allow setting to use motion or sound events for local. Logically it would mean you have to go into event recording and turn on motion or sound, and thus cloud, to get local events.

There are two types of “event recording” that your camera can do, event recording to the cloud, and events recording to local storage. I will touch on both:

  1. Event recording to the cloud.

To enable events recording to the cloud in a v3, you have to change the toggles in this screen below, which is accessed by going into settings, then “event recording”.

There are two different events that you can record to the cloud, motion events and sound events. These are accessed by going to the event tab off the main home page in the app. This is the same location to enable for the free cloud storage, and the camplus (although camplus have some more settings elsewhere)

  1. Local storage to the sd card.

To enable local storage, you need a sd card in the camera and then go to the settings menu, then advanced settings, then toggle the switch at the top and choose between the two modes. See below:

There are two modes to local storage to your sd card in camera, there is events only, and continuous recording (which records 24/7). The local storage’s event recording is the one where the full minute is saved where the motion falls, if the motion goes into the next minute, the full next minute is saved to your card. In the local storage events only, it only saves motion events, not sound events. Local storage is accessed by going to the live view of a camera, then to playback at the button of the screen.

Your settings on cloud storage or local storage above, does not effect the other. I’ll also touch on some of your statements to provide some clarity.

To turn on cloud recording, you need to enable the “motion detect” or “sound detect” on the events recording settings page I provided a screen shot above. That settings page, only effects your cloud recording.

There are two seperate modes to locally recording. “Motion” Events only, or continuously, where only one can be chosen at a time. Events only only saves minute chips where the motion event falls to your card, or continuously is always recording to your card.

Cloud storage has its own style of event recording, whereas local storage has its own version of event recording.

Does this provide some further explanation that cloud and local are Independant of each other?

Edit/ if you want more reading on the topic, I’d direct you to the v3 support pages that I’ll link.

Now I see what you are saying. Just looking at the menus does not make things very clear. I will be reading that article and I will be playing with these settings to see. Last question. If you have cloud event sound recording, then would that trigger the local or are they still separate?

Seperate. “Detect sound” is for cloud events. Local is only motion.

So, if sound is detected and records the 12 seconds to the cloud it will not save it to the local?
