2x Duo Doorbells how to bypass

I have existing dumb front and back doorbells and they use the same mechanical chime box with ‘front, trans, rear’ terminals.

To hard wire a duo doorbell, Wyze’s guide shows the usage of the provided bypass wire to connect the Front and Trans terminals together.

To install the rear doorbell, do I also use the bypass wire and connect the Trans and Rear terminals? so effective all the terminals are going to be connected together?

Also the picture shows the Front wire is still connected to the Front terminal but the description said ‘loose’ wire. Do I need to remove the existing wire from the Front terminal and somehow connect that to the bypass cable provided?

Any mod here can answer this question? thanks.

Is it your intention to use the duo’s wifi chimes and not the mechanical chime? The bypass wire acts to short out the circuit to the chime and at the same time send power from the transformer to charge the battery in the duo which must be in it to function even if wired. If you intend to use your front and back doorbell wiring to wire the duo’s for the mechanical chime, you will need to buy a couple chime controllers from the Wyze app store. Cannot use a single controller for both front and back.

I am intended to charge the battery only and use the Wyze wifi chimes.

I tried to bypass the terminals using the provided cable but I hear a slight buzzing noise. Now I disconnected the wires at the terminals from front and back bells and connected them directly to the Trans terminal. Seems to be ok so far and no more noise.

The buzz noise was from resistance in the transformer to the actuator not being able to handle the battery charging and activating the chime. Bare in mind you will have to pull the battery out and charge manually every few weeks. The batteries will not last months.

Can you post the transformer voltage if you have access to it? If the transformer has adequate voltage, you could conceivably disconnect the front and rear wires at the chime and connect just to the transformer for power to charge the battery and avoid the task of manual charging, which you appear to have already done. I would need to see your chime layout with wiring before making any suggestions.

FYI: You may need a transformer upgrade for both duo batteries to charge since they are necessary and for the duos to function.

I can’t find the transformer, the wire goes directly into the wall. However, I can see a lightning symbol (charging) in both of the doorbells’ live view screen. Does that mean my transformer is enough to charge both?

You most likely will find the transformer in the basement attached to the electrical breaker box or attached on the side of junction housing for a basement light. This is what you are looking for and no, just because you see the lightning bolt doesn’t mean you have enough transformer power to maintain the battery charge to both duos.

There will be numbers like ##V / ##VAC
