I recently purchased a Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell due to its feature set. The features are EXACTLY what I want in a wired doorbell. However, my intention to replace my existing Nest doorbell (to completely migrate to the Wyze ecosystem) was thwarted by the new Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell being a bit too large (and boxy) to be deployed as a wired replacement. I attempted to repurpose the unit as a battery-powered option, but as I feared, I think the whole battery-powered sales pitch is hugely flawed as I received not the 3-6 months of battery life marketed, but rather 3 to 4 DAYS, regardless of detection/event/notification settings. Useless.
Anyway, all this boils down to I would REALLY appreciate a new version of the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell that is released COMPLETELY without the battery compartment, which allow a downsizing of the unit. I love Wyze cameras and monitoring in general, and I’ve been waiting for years for a candidate to replace my existing Nest doorbell (gen 1).
I think this is missed market opportunity, and am surprised there are not more votes/comments for this. My (very small and practical) original wired Wyze Doorbell is unobtrusive and works great, other than it doesn’t actually get the porch area where the packages are left. The Duo Cam Doorbell looks perfect, but it’s huge and I don’t need/want a battery in it anyway. If you ever come out with a wired only Duo version, I’ll be among the first to buy it! Sticking with my existing one for now.
I like this idea, too. I made the switch to the Video Doorbell v2 (from a “dumb” doorbell button) after that was released because it offered local microSD recording and is wired to trigger my home’s built-in mechanical chime. While I really like it and the view it provides, I eventually fabricated a wedge mount with a downward angle so I could get more coverage of my porch, especially for package deliveries. Duo Cam Doorbell seems like it would provide this view, but I don’t really want the bulk that accompanies the rechargeable battery pack, because I would use this in a wired configuration.
