Wyze Cam v3 :

What’s New:
Still no word on exactly what SightSafe is, and how it affects the end user. Is it a DRM type protection? Will we lose the ability to play our own video clips?
Earlier forum post
AI says:
“ Wyze SightSafe is a security enhancement introduced in April 2025 for Wyze Cam v3, v3 Pro, and Cam Pan v2 models. It embeds user-authenticated digital signatures directly at the media source, adding an additional layer of security to event videos and live streams. This feature ensures that video footage is securely signed at the point of capture, enhancing the integrity and authenticity of the recordings.
SightSafe operates automatically and does not require any user configuration. It is implemented on Wyze’s backend systems and is included in the firmware updates for the supported camera models. Users do not need to enable or adjust any settings to benefit from this security feature.”
So is DRM, but there’s not a lot of tech details. And it still doesn’t answer my question; would the user lose the rights to the video clip eventually?
Is there a white paper somewhere?
I haven’t seen anything yet
This is most likely to prevent clip captures from being intercepted or leaking like they have had in the past. I know people probably enjoyed seeing my driveway and front porch but this is better for everyone. Glad to see at least some detail on security updates.
Here is my response to your question from the other thread. Moving it back here
While I have no official statement to show you my background is in cybersecurity and this kind of signing is very common. No it shouldn’t prevent owner from anything. It’s behind the scenes for when data is transfered over the wire. So that my clips or thumbnails don’t show up in your feed like past event. You can still pull the SD card grab your clips, connect to the camera over the network and download clips, manually record current and past events on the timeline using the 24X7 recordings. or if you have the cloud storage plans you can get it from there too.
How can you be so sure when you’re not a Wyze employee? Do you have insider info? If you do, post it. Otherwise, let Wyze speak for itself. At this rate, I don’t expect it to do so because there has been nothing at all other than some generic descriptions. And that speaks volumes.
Don’t be like someone here who hammers everyone with his “27 years” of experience.
Never said you had to believe me nor did I say I knew 100%. doesn’t hurt my feelings. Just saying I deal with very similar techniques on a daily basis and the technique matches a common use use case. Wyze is not open source, they are under no obligation to reveal their security measures. Best we all have is assumptions and experiences. The thought they would block the user from grabbing their own video was what I was responding to.

This firmware release and app 3.5.0 (b657)
Wyze Cam V3 with beta FW 4.36.14.3289:
It will still cause the V3 camera to restart itself automatically when the internet is out for more than 30 minutes. Once the camera is restarted then it will start recording in 20250417 folder with the timestamp of 2025-04-17 20:23:21 in the microSD card. It will overwrite the old footage. Alternatively, you can access the footage on the Wyze app as well on April 17th 2025 starting at 8:23pm. Keep this date in mind when you power cycle your cameras without internet or when you experience internet outage for more than 30 minutes. This date and time is only unique with this particular firmware as that should be the firmware build date.
Alternatively, users can manually flash back to FW 4.36.11.8391 as the Cam V3 doesn’t automatically restart when the internet is out for more than 30 minutes. If you wish to be on the latest firmware due to security improvements and other bug fixes, then another possible workaround would be enabling local NTP server and NTP intercept on your router as mentioned below. However, not a lot of router have this type of function available so YMMV.
Lastly, if you happen to power cycle your V3 camera while there is no internet then it will start recording on the date based on the firmware build date. The actual time might be different than listed below due to DST in my Eastern Time Zone. The Wyze app might think there’s recorded footage (green progress line on the timeline), but if you don’t see any footage then check ±1 hour.
Where do I go to kill myself. ‘It’s always something.’
Thanks for being yoda-on-the-spot for this issue.
I have a feeling that this issue will never get fixed
Such a strange thing have hanging around this long. Adding some extra comments wishing for a fix!

Have your tried deleting the “App Cache” on affected devices?
Thanks, I’ll have her give that a go and see if it helps… there was close to a gb of data in the cache.
