The current Battery Cam Pro does not have any configuration option indicating a solar panel is connected. The original WCO (Wyze Cam Outdoor) did have such an option and thats why this confusion sometimes happens.
As for the lightning bolt. This will only appear if the panel is aimed at direct sunlight. In our case it only appears from approx 9am until noon. It is still charging, just not enough to trigger the lightning bolt.
Another way of telling if it is charging is to watch the percentage icon in Live view. It should slowly increment. In our case it will go up approx 2% from 7am until the lightning bolt appears at 9am. If the percentage constantly goes down over the course of a day or so then there may be a connection issue with the panel or even a defective panel (rare).
This model uses an L shaped plug for connecting the power cable to the camera. It is a very tight fit and can be difficult to plug in (related to waterproofing). There have been instances on this forum where this plug has been the issue.
As a final note. Without knowing your geographical location - - the panel should be able to keep the battery charged to 90 - 100% (sunny skies, minimal number of events). The best recharge I have seen to date was 25% in a day.
Thank you for all of this information. Solar panel is in full sun.
No lightning bolt but I guess that’s how it’s suppose to be.
I have tested the cord and plugged in directly into my camera and the green charging light was on. I guess it’s working but it’s a really bad design flaw from Wyze.
This connection is also annoying as it falls out at the slightest touch
That is the wrong cable. That’s why it is falling out. Is that what came with the new unit. If so it’s wrong.
Ah ha. Is that from the solar panel. If so I believe it is from an earlier model. I just looked at the product page and wyze is selling just the usb c cable. This may be what you need.
First identify what usb connection is at the end of the camera pigtail. If your familiar with different usb connections it will be either a female “c” or a female “micro”. When properly connected you will see something as shown in the following screenshot:
There should be a sleeve that waterproofs the connection.
As for the lightning bolt. It has to be facing the sun to appear. Some of us have barked that it is not sensitive enough but there is a counter argument that it helps you adjust the panel for maximum sunlight.
