The Wyze Doorbell Pro and Wyze Cam v2 both work on all Google devices and the Google Home app. The Wyze Cam Outdoor v1 and V2 both time out in the Google Home app and devices, but show up in the Wyze app.
I have contacted Wyze about this and their only response is: “Our engineers are aware of this issue” which has been the case for at least a year from prior forum posts.
Are Wyze just no longer supporting these cameras? I have 10 of them and have invested considerably in the Wyze ecosystem, but will cease if this is the case.
I don’t have any of the Cam Outdoor models, but my experience streaming Wyze cameras in the Google Home app has always been inconsistent, so I rely on the Wyze app for the most reliable experience, and that’s what I expect Wyze to support. Wyze and Google both seem to make frequent unannounced backend changes that occasionally result in integration breakages, and often those are resolved…eventually. Reading other Forum topics I’ve gotten the sense that iOS users of the Google Home app have an even worse experience, because reportedly Apple and the Google Home team haven’t yet worked out their differences to get some camera streams working in the app on that platform.
As complex as these systems and interactions are, sometimes I’m amazed that these cross-platform integrations work at all.
Until recently, I was able to stream Wyze cams on my cellphone Google Home app; today I no longer have that access. I have no idea what happened. At the begining when I attempted to stream a cam, a message displayed with a long list of Nest devices asking if I had any linked to my home account, when I replied no, the response was to go back or create a Nest network. I opted to go back and I was returned to the screen with the list of Nest devices. Next I tried the create a Nest network option and the results was a frozen screen with the refresh circular arrow in the middle of it.
I tried unlinking and relinking Wyze to Google and reestablishing my cams but this did nothing to restore what access I had previously. Fortunately, I very rarely use GH to stream Wyze cams. It’s just annoying that I’ve been added to the list of Wyze users that is now experiencing failure with GH.
I just checked the Google Home app on an Android phone, and it’s streaming a collection of Cam v4s, Cam OGs (including a Telephoto), and Cam Pan v3s when I tap the Cameras tile from the main Favorites screen. If I try to tap an individual camera feed, then I see the prompt and list of Nest devices that you describe, but hitting the back arrow in the bottom navigation strip gets me back to the previous screen without locking me into a loop.
Thanks for the heads-up about that part. I guess Google is mucking about again. I wonder what they’ll break this time.
Since the Wyze Cams are still streaming to their tiles in the Google Home app (and since I don’t really use the Google Home app for that much, anyway), I didn’t do anything else to try to “fix” it, and I’ll have to remember later to check my Wyze camera access on the Google TV and/or Chromecast.
I have never put cams on my GH favorites page. Following up on your comments I added some; v3, v3Pro, v4, BCP, Pan v3 and DB Duo and not all at the same time. The DB duo’s are the only ones that are streaming. All others keep attempting but fail with a message that they are unavailable or unreachable trying to save battery.
I don’t use GH enough for it to be an issue or worth any effort to try and resolve. Oh well, back to Wyze and Alexa apps.
Yeah, the Google Home app’s element labeling could be more precise, I think. When I wrote “Favorites” before, I was talking about the main Favorites tab (selected at the bottom left), which is divided into Categories and Favorites sections, and I was tapping the Cameras tile up in the Categories section. Only recently I added (using the Edit button) a few individual camera tiles to the Favorites section on that screen (below the lights and a few other things that I’ve already been using there for a long time), and those are showing me streams if I swipe up and expose them, as well: a couple of Cam v4s and a Cam OG Telephoto. Tapping any of them gives me that same screen with the list of Nest products.
Exactly the procedures I followed. The cam tiles in Favorites tab auto opens and displays the stream which I like, if only it would display more than the DB duos. The cam tab/category across the top failed for all selections, even the duos. At least we were on the same page regarding this.
Chat with you on the next issue we’re assisting or troubleshooting.
Today, the GH cam streaming results got a little bit more confusing. Individual camera tiles on the Favorites page limited still to the DB duos. From the collective camera tile on the Favorites page, I am getting 1 Duo and 1 OG streaming. I even switched networks between my dedicated IoT 2.4 and the combined mesh 2.4/5ghz with no better results. I also switched to 2.4 in my gateway which is still active, and again no better results.
As I stated before, enough, back to Wyze and Alexa even though I never left.
