WYZE app disappeared in Play Store for Android tablets

I think this happens whether you have ANY version of the Wyze app installed - or NO Wyze app installed at all.

Can any of the office tablets access the Wyze app in the Play Store?

No, this happened after a specific update to the Play store. Whether this update was initiated by a Wyze programmer or a change by Google has not been determined yet. But now that the change has been made, no further updates from the Play store will be forthcoming until the issue is corrected.

Have 2 devices …My smart phone and a android tablet to access my Wyze cams.

At this moment I have both working but if I have to do a factory reset on the tablet I won’t be able to install the Wyze app from google play store if it’s not available…

If so, I will only have my Phone left to access the cams and features.
That is also a good reason why Wyze should consider a web app !

If your tablets are all on the same Play Store account an easy way to check compatibility is to go to the Play Store from a PC. Find the Wyze app and click on Install.
A dialog will appear showing which devices you can install the app on.
Notice it says my Emulator is not supported even through it is supposed to be emulating a phone? Also, a cheap Android TV box is supported.

I added the check marks and X’s to make it clearer.

How can a new Fall 2019 Samsung Galaxy Tab A Android 9.0 be listed in the not compatible list? Runs OK but don’t update or uninstall.

The age of the device has nothing to do with the problem. The Wyze app on the Play Store is rejecting tablets.

Nice!

Are they not making you a Regular because you’re Canadian? That’s discrimination!

Hi HareRaiser, I’m not sure what you’re saying “No” to…

This would be a good time for you to read this whole thread so you’d know what’s going on.

Oh, I’m regular enough.:slightly_smiling_face:

I downloaded and installed the latest version 2.9.30 apk file on two different Samsung tablets, works fine.

Would love to be helpful.
I do not pretend to be in anyway knowledgeable about how any of this works. I have several tablets and they seem to render the screens differently. Some display horizontally when held vertically and then display vertically when held horizontally and others display correctly.

Just wondering if some of the open source software has somehow gone awry with Google? Are any of the below used uniquely with tablets?

Wyze > Wyze App> Open Source & Release Notes

Android:

Name License Description

aspectjrt-1.7.3 EPL For MP4 file generat
Isoparser-1.0. Apache 2.0 For MP4 file generation
wheelview_1.3.3 Apache 2.0 Display data in wheel format
bumptech.glide:4.0. Apache 2.0 Related to image handling
squareup.picasso:2. Apache 2.0 Related to image handling

Best of luck and looking forward to a fix!

Hey Scamp, I don’t know about the potential for open source components to cause Play Store or other problems, but separately, out of curiousity…

…what Wyze app version(s) are you running on your several tablets? Did you sideload?

I’m still using V2.6.42 on the one I use most, and have sideloaded V2.9.30 on the other.

The same open source componants are in the app forvthe phone and tablet. I don’t know how it would block only tablets.
I have tried making my Tab S tablet appear as an LG G3 phone and I was allowed to install the Wyze app.

Good idea. :+1:

I just experimented with it. Your device hss to be rooted.
It’s easier to just sideload the Wyze app.

I have a Nexus 7 (2013) and Kindle Fire 8 HD, both Android tablets. Google Play Store shows that both are NOT compatible. The two phones I have both show that they ARE compatible (although I do not have it installed on them).

Your testing should include using tablets before posting new releases to the Play Store and then verifying that the app is accessible after if is released to the Play Store. This is basic QA and Release Management protocol.

Wyze just rolled out 2.9.62 for Scale and Band support, clearly indicating their priorities.

Those wanting to view their mission security cams on something other than a toaster pastry sized screen have been given notice of Wyze marketing and support priority.

Considering the success of users doing the sideload on their tablets, which is unacceptable in my situation, the fix should be a no-brainer half-an-afternoon for Wyze to implement. They just don’t care.

Really, new app released today 31/03/2020 still no corrective action for Android tablets?

Disappointing.
