In the Wyze app-device info-network, there is a change selection greyed out. I have all of my cameras firmware and app updated. When I click “change” in the network selection, it indicates “you will need to update the device firmware to use this feature”. Is this a new feature that will be released or is it a bug? Again, I have performed all updates as necessary but the feature remains greyed out. Thanks for your help and Happy New Year.
Which specific app version(s) are you using? I believe that feature may be in development. I see it when I look at a Cam v4’s Device Info screen in Android β app v3.10.0.b743 but not if I open that same Cam’s Device Info in Android production app v3.8.7.725.
I think I’ve seen other users mention seeing that elsewhere here in the Forum, but I’m struggling to find that discussion at the moment.
Thank you for the quick response. I have Android app v3.9.0 and iOS app number 3.9.1. This issue was on my V4 and V3 cameras.
As @Crease said, that feature is in development and no one except Wyze knows when is going to be implemented.
@gvfilipponejr, I think this is one of the places I saw it discussed beginning with this post:
@habib, thanks for the reminder! ![]()
Thank you for your response
Please let them get that out here for the Wyze Floodlight Cam (Original version) . I have one 30 feet up on the top of my house and I don’t have a ladder long enough to get up there. I’d like to be able to change the wifi without having to hire someone with a ladder and then climb up there to reset and re-add the camera.
This will be a welcome change depending on how it works. This process is more difficult than most people realize. It’s easiest if BOTH the old and new WiFi SSIDs are operational at the time of the change. Next is if the new is not there but coming soon. If the old SSID is gone, there is essentially no way to communicate to the camera to give it the new information.
Watching…
Coincidentally I have two 5G providers, Tmobile and Straight talk as the backup to Tmobile. I only pay $65 for both which is comfortable for my expenses. I have two mesh networks, one for each provider. It would be nice to switch networks if needed. Thanks for your response and Happy New Year to you.
I don’t have any influence over that. ![]()
The oldest Cam I have is a Cam Pan v3, and I do see a disabled grey Change button on the Network line in Device Info for that Cam when I pull it up in the v3.10.0.b743 Android β app. I’m interested in seeing how this rolls out and if it’ll apply to all Cams.
Totally agree and I think Wyze will go that route.
is there an issue with interactivity if Wyze cams are on a different SSID than bulbs and plugs?
In what way? What kind of issue would there be?
I don’t have an answer. I’m just asking for follow-up and trying to understand the question.
If you’re thinking of something like Automations—for instance, having a Cam trigger a Bulb or Plug—then I would expect all that to involve looping out to the Internet because the rules engine on Wyze servers would be involved. Since that communication would have to leave the LAN, different SSIDs wouldn’t seem to make a difference.
If Wyze supported Matter on all their devices, then I could maybe see different SSIDs being an issue if they were firewalled from each other and someone wanted to use local control between two devices on different SSIDs. That seems like it’d be an odd thing for someone to set up, though. ![]()
Maybe in a Home Assistant setting it would make a difference? Even in that situation, I wouldn’t expect someone to set up separate SSIDs for Cams vs. Bulbs & Plugs, but humans often do unexpected things.
I think it’s a reasonable question. I’m just struggling to understand a use case where it might be an issue.
My question arose out of ‘oh, new ability, is there a catch?’
On the order of, 'i have almost all v3s, if i switch them to a new SSID on the same LAN, will automations/rules still operate seamlessly with bulbs and plugs on the original SSID…
…or will i have to switch them manually to the new SSID, because the ‘switch network’ capability will only be available for cams (at first?)’
Oh, gotcha. I appreciate the additional context. ![]()
I wouldn’t expect moving the Cams to a different SSID to necessitate the same change for Bulbs and Plugs any more than would packing up the Cams and moving them to a different physical location and different LAN. I would still expect Automations to work as long as both LANs (and the devices on those) can reach Wyze servers.
Thanks, Crease. ![]()
Is there any way this allows me to change the WiFi password at the router – and then (through the app) at each Wyze device on the LAN without resetting?
I don’t know, but that seems like a reasonable expectation based on my understanding of what I’ve read so far. I haven’t yet seen this feature enabled for me on any Cams, and the only Cam I currently have with beta firmware installed is a Cam Pan v3 that I flashed with the RTSP firmware a while back. I’ll be interested to read others’ experience once this feature is enabled and people can try using it.
Indeed.
Good news. It’s happening.
Yeah, I read that announcement, which is why I mentioned beta firmware in my previous comment. I probably should’ve gone into more detail. Thanks for the reference! ![]()
