If this becomes a common practice, it seems like it could make Wi-Fi cameras useless for security purposes.
I donāt know how common it is, but it certainly is possible (and fairly easy). Just one of a list of reasons I donāt consider ANY WiFi camera to be a true security camera.
I think as this gets more publicity, it will become more common.
If we could get a USB to Ethernet adapter to work, that might be a partial solution. It would allow us to keep the cameras that are close enough to run cable to online in case of a jamming incident?
I am sure this would require a firmware update to implement, but it would give a little more security.
You canāt live in fear. If someone wants to get in your house they can. Do the best you can or buy a wired camera. Ethernet used to be good for that.
Works with V3-no firmware mod necessary.
Add in a SD card in to record.
An acronym from the past: POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) or copper/land line. Iām old and have seen too many instances where wifi and cell phone services are unavailable in an emergency. I pay for a land line for the added benefit that the local police/fire/ambulance know exactly where I am if I call. And, it works during most power outages.
You are lucky. They donāt offer copper lines in my area or fiber. It all VOIP.
AT&T here tried to weasel out of providing land lines but got a smack down from the Public Utilities Commission due to the rural outcry. I still have copper lines.
Fantastic. I gave mine away for cost. They said donāt ask for copper again. No problem. I can adapt.
That would be meā¦rural Oregon with no decent alternatives from copper. Costs too much but worth the piece of mind.
VOIP runs on somethingā¦wifi, fiber, copper. If it isnāt wifi, should be immune to wifi jamming.
I canceled our land line over 10 years ago just to stop the endless political calls. The customer service rep did her best to talk me out of it.
I have an answering system that stops most of the annoying calls, especially the robo calls. Itās an AT&T machine that requires actual human input to ring through or go to the answering system.
Still have my copper POTS line, too. Los Angeles / Pasadena area.
If people want your stuff they will take it; you can only slow them down.
Even if you have great pictures law enforcement doesnāt have time for that unless itās a Capitol offense.
Landline phone became redundant and returned $43 to my BBQ budget a month.
Not sure what pictures you are referring to.
The ācameraā mentioned in the OP of this thread, "wi-fi-jamming-to-knock-out-cameras . . . " Iāve noticed users post video of crimes on NextDoor App.
