Which SD cards

What is the best 64gb sd cards to use in cams? I was looking at High Endurance cards but they are expensive.

Costs of all storage and RAM are very high lately. Can you make do with smaller size cards? I use 32GB High Endurace SanDisk cards and my oldest card is 4.5 year old recording continuously in a Wyze v3 cameras.

I get 3.5 days of Continuous Recording video before old files get over-written.

I could go with 32, but it is only $4 more for 64

I hear you. I paid $34.99 back in May for a 128GB SanDisk High Endurance card. Looks like the price is still about tne same so maybe card prices are stabilizing.

All media is going up in prices. Every one is building data centers. “Media manufacturers”
are shifting resources to making SSD and HHD. They are ignoring the retail market. Thus, stuff will get harder to find before it becomes “loose” again.

I use the Samsung Pro Endurance (as do many others here). I’m using the 128GB ones. I bought them for $13 each 2 years ago, man I miss those days. The sandisk High Endurance and Max Endurance are good too. All of them tend to be about the same price.

If you are not planning to do continuous recording you can get away with a non endurance rated card. Depending on how much motion you have anyway, if it is constantly triggering then it isn’t any easier on the card than continuous (in fact may even be a bit harsher on it).

I would avoid budget cards like adata and team group as well as no-name cards. PNY is borderline, probably ok for event only recording that doesn’t trigger a lot.

Lexar is fairly highly regarded by photographers, and they (and/or Kioxia) probably make the Wyze branded cards for them. Lexar is a bit higher end than Kioxia.

But of course sticking with the top of the line brands (Samsung and Sandisk, maybe some Kingston ones if they even still make them) is probably the way to go, their non endurance cards are cheaper.

Another thing to keep in mind is the larger the card, typically the longer it will last, since it needs to write each cell less often. So if you go with non-endurance, might want to consider 128 or 256 to make them last longer if you plan to try continuous recording on them.

I’ve got 32gb PNY cards that are probably going on 5+ years of use!

Only time I’ve ever had an issue is when the camera/firmware/something failed and it won’t record to any micro SD card.

Are they continuous recording? That’s definitely good for a PNY card (especially only 32GB) but that’s the “luck of the draw” things with SD cards. I’ve had high end ones fail and low end ones last way longer than they ever should have. Nothing wrong with PNY per se, they’re just on the lower end/cost effective side and not endurance cards by any means. Though I do remember back in the days that RAM was measured in megabytes, PNY was pretty much “the” brand, at least in retail stores.

I have 3x 8GB SD cards that came with dash cams, they are white labeled cards, no idea who actually made them (and the dash cam brand is far from anything well known or high end). I’ve been using them in 3 OG cams that are set to motion only, going on 2 years now without issues (well I think one did need a format once, but nothing otherwise). One of them hardly ever records, but the other do 20-30 clips a day probably. Granted that’s still a small amount but I’m surprised they haven’t died on me yet. The cams aren’t critical so figured might as well try them, and so far it has worked out well.

I had a 32GB Samsung Evo that one of those dash cams killed, had a bad spot about halfway in, but I was still using it with my “spare portable” wyze OG. As long as I formatted it daily it was fine, but it got to the point where it was randomly disconnecting from the cam. Finally tossed that last night and put in a 32GB Kingston card that is probably 10+ years old. We’ll see how that one holds up. I don’t really want to sacrifice any of my good non-endurance cards, and buying new endurance cards right now is a no go.
