With Crease’s clarification that we do not have forum moderation privileges (we can’t edit or delete your posts even if we wanted to), can we be your friend now?
@towelkingdom says I’m her friend even though I’m a Maven.
I see, I stand corrected.
Always, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Don’t let them fool you. They get free cameras returned by users.
No worries. I just didn’t want anyone else reading this topic to get the wrong idea. I’m still new to this thing and trying to operate like any other user, but now I have a lot of reading to do.
Now that’s funny
I guess I had Moderator and Maven mixed up. No more beer for me today
This is a good idea. Someone should send this up the chain. I’ve never gotten a camera that was returned from a user. Some of the volunteer benefits have been discussed publicly in live Firesides and other places, but getting free cameras returned by users was not one of them.
I think Wyze does the following with all of those devices:
- Resells them on their eBay store as previously owned/used/refurbished
- Resells them on their website as refurbished
- Resells them on Woot as refurbished (or returned new) if they were purchased from the Wyze Amazon store and returned to Amazon for any reason.
But I would love it if Wyze would give me free access to all the returned devices I want. I still need a Wyze Car for my collection, and I could use some more Floodlight Pros, Air Purifiers, etc. I don’t mind if they’ve been returned.
Probably would’ve saved me a lot of the thousands of dollars of my own personal money that I’ve spent on dozens of Wyze cameras and over 300+ total Wyze devices. I’m probably over 400, I just stopped counting when I hit 400+.
Truthfully, I think all their returned devices sell out pretty easily/fast.
My main motivations for becoming a Maven were:
- I already enjoyed helping people in here, and was asked to just keep doing what I had already been doing for well over a year already.
- I would get extra access to employees non-publicly and would also be able to direct their attention to important things more easily.
That was more than enough for me to be a volunteer.
Everything else was/is just a bonus, including how much I enjoy interacting with all the other volunteers in our non-public channel. I actually REALLY enjoy their company and bantering and posing ideas and troubleshooting things behind the scenes so we can try to to figure things out to help people on here and make Wyze better. The other volunteers are really great people, and I was fortunate enough to be able to meet several of them in person at an Event Wyze invited us to a couple of years ago…actually almost exactly 2 years ago. That was an incredible benefit. I also appreciate that Wyze told me that since I don’t represent them in any way, I am mostly free to be myself with my own opinions, etc. And I have criticized them when/where I feel they deserve it (both publicly and in back channels).
I like being able to basically be a community representative. I see what the community wants/says or is having issues with and I can represent the general community in my interactions to Wyze. Rather than me representing Wyze, I try to assume my main responsibility is to represent the community and also use my knowledge to help the community.
From that perspective, I think Crease can do an amazing job. He knows a lot about Wyze, He’s been helping people out, and I think he can fairly represent what people want, think and need help with. We can’t control what Wyze does, but we can make sure the general community is heard and extremely important things aren’t missed. So I think he will do an excellent job from that perspective as he’s already been doing.
Well said!
I would have put money on you having a car.
Well, yeah, but only because you’re not sharing!
I can identify with this %.
That’s my hope, too. Once I feel like I’ve gotten up to speed, I’d like to see if I can direct attention to some Help Center articles that could do with fixin’, because I hope that would benefit the community at large. I want the information to be accurate and useful.
I appreciate this vote of confidence. Thank you.
Totally.
I just had two and tried to share some with MFP who was coming back from across the street headed North. He just smiled and slinked under my gate to the water station at Weeds & Water.
I tried to get one when they first launched, but they were so popular the website kept crashing and sold out within seconds all day long.
I wish they had a better motor in them too. I’ve seen some struggle on grass.
Honestly, I mostly want one so when I go on vacation I can use it to drive around and play with my cats remotely.
I think the only things I don’t have from Wyze yet are the Car, the Cam V1, and the Scale S. I even have a Wyze switch despite having no neutral wiring. I was going to use it for a different purpose, and just never got around to it…so even though I bought one, I don’t have the badge for the switch.
@R.Good sort of bullied me into getting the Watch and Band or I might not have those either.
Oh mine struggles on grass, too. It also struggles more on carpet than my linoleum floor.
But my use was mostly just to irritate my pets and let my niece play with it when we are on vacation. Travel mode works pretty good.
However, I don’t see a way to turn it on/off remotely. So, you’d have to turn it on before you leave and it’ll die within a couple of days.
I talked to some people who found ways to charge it remotely and be able to use it almost indefinitely Just have to remember before the battery dies to move it back to the charging location they set up.
I can’t remember everything they did to set it up, but it sounded cool. Without looking it up, I am guessing they replaced the battery with something like a wireless charging battery that does passthrough charging. Then they just drive it back into position and it will charge the battery without having to turn off the car. I would probably do that.
Ok, now that’s cool.
somehow, I got lucky, I have one that I have never even used… On one hand I want to but on the other I see it as kind of the rare collectors item that is unopened LOL even if it has no intrinsic value to me it does.
I got inherently lucky, too. I think I tried for a car 3 times total. Wasn’t that the one where they released so many an hour?
I believe so.
it was a odd release…
I’m gonna claim I was like Barbara Streisand and I’m people who know people LOL that may or may not be true but still…
