What about Weezer’s cover of “Mr. Blue Sky”?

No much hi-fi or graphics.

Prefer Jeff Lynne’s version. First heard on 8-track.

I dig. I generally prefer originals, but their “Teal Album” is a pretty decent set of covers, and when I saw them live with Foo Fighters once, they covered “Big Me” in their set and were really good with that. I hadn’t listened to a lot of their music before (I bought the tickets because I wanted to see Foo Fighters), but I came away from the show really impressed with their versatility (like switching leads and instruments between songs).

Very good. I didn’t start listening to rock to when I turned 21 after joining the Navy. Roommate played heart on cassette and guitar. I took a chance a few weeks later when I found ELO on the $5 table. Loved ELO ever since. Saw Heart in concert in 1985.

Nope, groing up in socialist (semi communist) country, all western music, movies etc. had to be vetoed by the state before hitting the shelf. Remember, at this time internet as we know it today, was a distant dream. Maybe Dusty never made it to the shelfs, or maybe she was popular before my time, but honestly never heard of her. I had to Google her. None of her songs sound familiar also. Same goes for The Zombies. :man_shrugging:

I lived in Eastern Europe during the late 60’s-70’s. I heard Dusty and other modern (at the time), banned music on the Armed Forces Network via shortwave.

You would’ve heard at least part of her cover of “Spooky” in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in the scene at the strip club where Gary and Dean meet with Barry the Baptist. That’s why I mentioned you earlier.

Oof. I was familiar with 'em before, but I guess I heard more Zombies music when my dad’s band used to cover them, especially “She’s Not There”.

See, unlike many people I don’t remember music or phrases from movies, except the “I’ll be back”. “I used to
guys like you in prison” and the Pulp Fiction music where Uma moves her fingers in front of her eyes :man_shrugging:

That’s cool. I guess I just tend to remember a lot of things, and growing up around music might have something to do with appreciating the way certain music adds to a scene in a movie or TV show. (It can detract, too, like when Northern Exposure was released to DVD and the producers apparently hadn’t secured the rights to release in that format certain songs they’d licensed for the original broadcast run, so they swapped in new music and many scenes just didn’t feel right after that.)

You do like some good bands, though. I’m not really familiar with Status Quo and might have to look into them. What would you recommend as a starting point?

I play guitar and played bass in a band in my late teens early twenties till I came to Canada. Not in a band anymore but I pick up a guitar or a bass once in a while. I have an acoustic guitar, two electric and a bass in my collection.

I’d start with “Rockin’ All Over the World”, “If You Can’t Stand the Heat” and “Whatever You Want”, my favourite albums. I kind of stopped listening to them actively after 1987.

EDIT: I got into different music after that, more into Jethro Tull. Uriah Heep and Yes. Don’t get me wrong, I like American bands as well, but those were less available in my youth. My all time favourite American bands are Grand Funk, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Eagles. My list of bands is soooo loooong

‘Oh, pusspack.’ Spontaneous reaction to breaking entertainment news this morning. :no_mouth:

Reminds me of why they don’t use a fannypack in the UK.

Is the bad work checker British?

MFP has been in hiding since I put up his Wanted Poster yesterday. He didn’t come by at any time yesterday and failed to show up for his assigned duties last night, this hasn’t happened in a very long time. Maybe he found another Low Class Diner?
