After getting a Solar Cam 2K, and being quite disappointed in it’s performance compared to my v3s, I’m back to trying to setup a solar + battery setup for my v3(s).
On continuous record, the v3 pulls approx 1.75 watts. My meter shows it bouncing between 1.5 and 2.0 watts, regardless of IR lighting, motion in frame, day/night settings etc. I believe the real number is between 1.5 and 2.0, and the meter can only display as accurate as 0.5 of a watt. So I feel 1.75 watts is a solid usable number.
I wish I had done this years ago. I love the v3s.
Found this on Amazon, arrives tomorrow for testing. I’ll be charging it fully from house power, and seeing how long until it shuts off. 40W of solar should be a lot to work with. if we assume a 80% (good estimate?) round trip from the panel to battery to device, that’s 32 watts/hr = 32wH.
it will take 42wH/day to run the camera, so we need, let’s call it, 2 good hours of sunight/day to keep this puppy operational. so, I think it should work well. Maybe it could support 2 cameras depending on sunlight.
If we assume this is a 12v battery (not defined, but it outputs 12v or 5v), then it should be approx 288 watt hours.
if we round down to a more likely 250 watt hours, we get 143 hours of power, or about 6 DAYS of power without sunlight.
I have no idea if it will deliver on that capacity, but I will surely be testing it.
I have no affiliation with amazon or Vuebee (very stupid name) or wyze.
My specific use case calls for a v3, in a remote area, where my wifi works fine, and I’m not keen on running 200’ of extension cord.
