[Updated 02-13-20] Data leak 12-26-2019

I tried that first and it didnt work. So I deleted all bulbs from IFTTT, Alexa, Google and Wyze. Added them back. into wyze snd Alexa. In Alexa app the bulb is showing as server is unresponsive. When i try to turn bulb on it shows waiting for wyze but doesn’t turn on. For now I’ve given up on google and IFTTT, I just want to get one to work.

I’d start a support ticket at this point

I agree with @paindonthurt at this point. Something unusual is going on and you need to involve support at this point.

Thank you for this response. While I don’t completely follow all of the technical aspects in the 12Security posts, some of the points do seem at least plausible.
I hope that you soon will clarify the issues raised by 12Security. I think that Wyze users understand that the company takes our security “seriously”, yet here we are.
I’m hoping for a positive conclusion to this whole event which has no doubt been a nightmare for a young, innovative company (which we all support). In the meantime it is so very important to keep your customers timely and transparently informed.

I believe Wyze has been timely and transparent as they can be. Some things take time to sort out. But once they have a definitive answer and not just “think so” answers they respond.

On 1/3/2020, an order was sent to the Account Deletion team (by Wyze Support) to terminate my account.

Since this forum is tightly integrated with the Wyze account and email address, I think it is problematic for Wyze to delete my account and original email address. The preferences in this forum only allow changing the Display Name. We shall see.

Another person I know had emailed Wyze to completely delete his account 3 weeks ago. He is still getting emails from Wyze. Not good.

Im one guy that doesn’t really have a clue about most of the stuff above but Id like to see if I can get some help.
Since the breach ,started a few days ago I have been getting about 40 spam emails a day from the below emails and they are changing every single day, to my wise email address that I use.
I have read a lot of the above but like a few others this email in particular is not given out to no more than 4 other people.
i have junked the emails but when im out and about my mobile also gets them and im getting a little sick of the ding from my phone altering me to an in coming email, junk one and another email address just pops up.
Is there a way I can get rid of the spam altogether or is it just bad luck?
Who knows I could take their advice and become a millionaire
Here are a few as im only new and can only post 2 links

bitcoinprofit@whenttt.com (about 20 different emails)

cryptoalex@cralgsllst.com (about 30 different emails)
and there are lots more

Welcome to the club. What you’re experiencing is one of the ‘benefits’ of Wyze’s failure and there’s not much you can do about it.

I went from 3 to 4 spam emails a day to 40 to 50 just like you during the same time frame so there’s little doubt in my mind it’s related.

Fortunately, in my case, the onslaught seems to be waning and is now down to 10 to 12 a day (shouldn’t say that out loud as it will probably go back up now). That may be just the natural progression of spam in general or possibly action taken by my email provider - who knows.

In the mean time all you can do is analyze your new opportunities for financial improvement, health enhancement, or possibly developing a relationship with a destitute young lady in some exotic locale - but do so cautiously.

It sucks that so many messages are getting through to you guys. Which email clients do you use? I don’t remember the last time I had to deal with spam messages (before or after any leak). Once in a while a single one might get through, but having even a few a day sounds like there’s something wrong with spam filtering. So in short, my recommendation would be switching email clients, or maybe setting up better spam filtering if that’s available in your client, but I am curious what you guys use now

I thought the same thing about the lock, though I hadn’t ordered one. But these kind of product from any company is likely to have breaches, just the nature of it. Pretty sure I heard Ring had one not all that long ago.

Agreed. Gmail basically never lets through spam.

Underscores need to use a “throwaway” email for all registrations of this type. Lesson learned. Now wyze needs to give us the option of changing our email. If they dont i will delete my account and start over with totally generic throwaway info.

Simply because after years of reading your mail, they know which ones you care for

Thanks to all the replies.
I have my own domain name , it was meant to be private and was only given out to a few, looks like not so private anymore.
Was only given to a few so I wouldn’t get this type of rubbish spam, thank you wyse.
Anyway it is what it is and lesson learnt.
Strangely I have several replies from you guy’s and thank you for that but an email gone to wyse and nothing back, I suppose I should not hold my breath.

Nothing wrong with the spam filtering as they are ending up in the spam folder. The point was that prior to Wyze leaving the front door open there were only 4 or 5 a day versus 40 to 50 afterwards.

Yikes that is quite a jump. I have not experienced any spam whatsoever yet.

@fritz And Gmail does let spam through because my wife has Gmail and she gets spam but she doesn’t get some of the nasty porn stuff like you do on hotmail and Other services and they do go to her spam folder not her inbox. So maybe Gmail does a better job but they do let spam through. I don’t think there’s any email provider out there that blocks all spam.

Please do not take this is me taking this lightly. I wouldn’t want to get this kind of quantity of spam either by both of you are.

Started to get weird emails from a Dating site… Blocked it… Hope blocking makes it stop.
I dont use the wyze email for anything else so its weird…

Sorry to hear you are getting so many spam emails. Fortunately I have not got any. I really don’t understand today why these continue. There is a very funny YT video when he purposely responds to one and has fun with the spammer;

I love that video, I think it should be mandatory viewing and behavior.

I’ve got my own domain, too, but I still use Gmail through G Suite. I’ve had it forever, since it was called Google Apps. I guess it costs money now, but it used to be free and I’m still grandfathered in.

Anyway, if my spam increased, I doubt I’d even notice. It all goes into a spam folder I never look at.
