[Updated 02-13-20] Data leak 12-26-2019

Seems to be one and the same. Very similar writing styles and word usage.

Yes, that’s the guy. He signed his latest post. (That was one of the things I assumed to be in response to this thread.)

I agree there, you know he is watching.

Wow, that’s wild. Although I find it highly far fetched, I have to admit I’d like to see the so-called evidence that they will be releasing over the next couple weeks. Of course if even a little bit of bad intent by Wyze is shown, which I seriously doubt, that would be the end of Wyze for many

So far he has not shown much in the way of proof for any of his allegations. Wyze found the exposed database apparently without his help. So while there is certainly some truth in some of his allegations it’s hard to ascertain the veracity of any of his claims other than the fact there was an unsecured database.

Interesting he seems to be claiming it is still open and that he has found other databases. I do recall Gwendolyn mentioning in one of her updates that Wyze had indeed found another database. But it’s hard to sort out what exactly he is claiming.

I do feel he is running rather far into the conspiracy theory way of thinking and I can’t imagine his accusations of espionage will go unchallenged. I would imagine if he cannot back those accusations up he could be facing some legal issues.

But I am not a lawyer so while I may think so I don’t know so. :man_shrugging:

He’s made similar unfounded “front company” claims against other companies like ProtonMail, too. Clearly, this guy doesn’t bother to actually verify anything before he sounds the alarm. He’s operating with the intent to damage, not the intent to help.

I just can’t get past what he describes as sub domains of Credit Karma. According to him they are actually running a prostitution ring or something. I swear you can’t make this stuff up!

Good evening, Can you help us understand why you might not have actively informed your registered users via email? Additionally, what’s the purpose of storing the WiFi access point information? It would seem to me that the information is needed for the device that is on the network and there wouldn’t be any intrinsic value to you. I look forward to your response. And, I am an extensive user of your products in my home. Thank you.

Amazing. I get banned on Twitter for suggesting using water cannons on protesters instead of police clubs. This guy Dan is a serious global threat and I ask, has this been kicked over to the FBI? Looking at the Twitter thread there’s something way out of line with the guy, enough to warrant a visit.

Where emails sent out to alert customers?!? I did not receive if they did. Also why is there no information/ alert about this on customers account pages or the main web site. From my experience with this company so far, I would expect a bit more than posting on the forums.

Question about the Password Security
I understand the password wasn’t involved in data breach, but I will still be changing mine. However, can Wyze staff let us know if our passwords are stored in the database hashed or as plain text? It would give me much more peace of mind if it were hashed.

Honestly I’m very heartened by Wyze associates’ quick action and the continued openness regarding what, how, why this happened and the resulting security measures Wyze will take going forward.

I was a Wyze fanboy before. Your forthrightness has upped my status to true believer.

Good job Wyze guys (“guys” is not gender specific so don’t get on my case you woke folk).

No emails yet. Wyze said they will be sent to everyone affected. Concerning this is the biggest holiday week (Christmas and New Years) Wyze is probably making sure they have all the facts before the email is sent.

Subject of this post says “updated 12-30” but I don’t see an update from Wyze today?

Edit: Guessing the update was the below post. Would be nice if Wyze would copy all updates to the original post so it’s a central place to look for updates.

Wondering if this has anything to do with this Data leak?

signed…the newbie.

I have yet to figure out how posting works. The order is confusing to me. Probably why I’m not on Twitter.
