Update on Investigation of 2/16/24 Security Issue

My Battery Cam Pro is still showing Failed to Connect. Network Failure. Pulled battery, deleted device, etc. and still shows that error, yet it is still recording events. Would really like to get this back online 100% so i can control it.

Being REALLY responsible would mean working to develop apps that don’t require connection through Wyze’s servers and keep users’ data and videos truly private within premises based storage.

I received my Wyze devices as gifts and I either don’t use them or don’t connect them (scale) to my WiFi because I prefer to keep full custody of my own data. If I wanted to hand my data over to a corporation to potentially monetize, I’d get a Ring/Nest device.

The only way to truly secure data is to limit the number of locations and custodians to the absolute minimum.

Provide firmware/apps that let users maintain full physical custody of their own data. I’m not a luddite - I’m a cloud platform developer - I help run the cloud and what I know makes me not want any of my data there.

@Nick514

I am sorry to hear that, what model camera is still offline.

@bjurgella
Have you tried removing the battery waiting 30 seconds or so and then reinstalling it?

Since we had a Security Breech on our accounts will you give the Customers FREE CREDIT Check? Most Business do this when there is a Security Breech!

Yes. Still same issue. I even let it sit for longer with battery out. It’s still recording events just cant get the live view to come on.

Would you be willing to give me the mac address so I can have an engineer look at it?

I have been getting error messages since Friday. Different error messages, which Wyze chooses to keep to themselves for some odd reason, none the less, it makes it extremely difficult to troubleshoot without the right information.
That being said, the 2 Battery Cam units that currently show this error message can in fact be viewed. Surprising enough I was looking at my cameras in the “Bluestacks” app and can log into my 2 Battery Cams without issue.

I guess my biggest issue is when are the rocket scientists at Wyze are going to get this issue resolved, so I/we can get back to whatever we were doing before this all transpired.

What email? I still have to receive any. I only found out about this via Tom’s Hardware.

No - I have a Brand new MacBook Pro about 3 mo old! I want my Credit Report safe!

I was asking a different user for the mac address of his Battery Cam Pro so the engineers can look at why it is not connecting.

@Kaacey I doubt this will happen. It wasn’t that kind of security breach. A credit check would be completely unrelated to the current issue. Nobody’s name was leaked, nobody’s credit card was leaked, no Identification or financial information was breached. I can’t see any way that a company would offer a free credit check for something that doesn’t even affect anyone’s credit or financial or stolen identity risk, etc. It wouldn’t make sense, and the public would likely attack them over doing something completely unrelated to the issue. There is just no way they’d do this.

I heard someone else mention giving cam plus or the unlimited one for free for a month, but I think that would also get attacked for turning a security situation into a marketing opportunity. I think the main thing most people reasonably want as reparations is as much transparency as possible and a clear action plan.

I have an identical issue with my battery cam pro since the security issue. Events works but can’t connect with a live view, claiming network error. Tried removing battery, reset, delete and add. No luck. Thanks for looking into it.

This isn’t the first time that other peoples data (pictures/video) has been accessed by others. With the delay in notification and the same issue or same result is a concern that Security or the way Wyze has been implement the software isn’t a high priority.

what are you doing to make a change and not keep have this type of issue seen?

I feel so insecure now to use wyze cameras. It looks like there are backdoor ways with which developers can gain access to wyze cams. If a simple bug in library can let others view each others events, its quite possible there are ways a developer can look into feed of any online wyze cam without requiring any two factor authentication or anything. I can never trust wyze now given the number of security incidents in the past few months and how easy it is for a misconfigured system to view each others cameras.

What if there is a way to view live camera view as well through some backdoor accessible to wyze developers? What if there is another security breach in future where they come back and say others were able to view each other’s live feed due to a system bug which shouldn’t have happened. I don’t think anyone can trust their systems. Using wyze cams indoor seems to be a disaster.

Can you help us out with trying to find the issue. Please try to load the live view until it times out. Then submit a log and give me the log number. Also can you give me the mac address of the cam? Make sure to wait until it times out trying to connecr before doing the log.

I am sorry we don’t have this figured out yet.
