Thermostat schedules not working

I have downloaded the test flight app. Do I still need an invite code?
I have selected the thermostat for any beta versions but nothing has changed.

Thanks

No code will be needed, If you have the Beta and selected the T-Stat Beta FW you will be presented with any Beta FW Updates

Has anyone successfully been able to get their T-stat to run off of a schedule and not preferences. I have fought with this for years, contacted support, trouble shot, restarted, reset, reinstalled…the whole thing - and seem to do this weekly. Still the tstat runs off of preferences ONLY. I live in Texas - one day its 80, the next is 16. Preferences do me no good, when I specifically set a schedule.

I am so irritated at this point that I’m ready to remove the whole Wyze system and go to social media because I’ve not been able to get this resolved.

Would greatly appreciate any help.

I’m also in Texas and am using schedules with no issues. Can you attach screenshots of your schedules ?

I can only attach one photo to the chat at a time. But I set the preferences to silly limits to see if I could force the schedule to over ride. Went through the whole trouble shooting process again this evening and reset everything (again) and still running off of the preferences not schedule.

I think the issue you’re having may be with the “home, away & sleep” modes that you’ve set. These modes do NOT switch automatically, and you’ll have to manually enable them in the app. I would remove those entirely, as it’s not necessary at all. Re-do your scheduled without those modes and see what happens. For example, my schedule is simply in the “home” state 24/7. The away and sleep modes I would have to trigger manually every day, and I just don’t see the point in that. It’s not necessary at all.

Additionally, if I set my tstat to auto, it will not show the scheduled temperatures either, until the next scheduled time kicks in. I don’t really use auto because here in Texas it can be 30 today, and 70 tomorrow…the 5 degree temp differential is way too low for us as a result. So I just manually change to heat or cool as needed - but it will still follow the schedule, based on my settings. For example, right now we have the heat set to 74. At 11pm it is scheduled to drop down to 70 - meaning, the heat will not turn back on unless the temp in the house drops below 70. At 6am it’s scheduled to go back to 74 so that the house is warm by the time we wake up. When everybody leaves for work at 730am, the schedule drops the tstat back to 70. I don’t have it setup with those home, away & sleep modes though. I think this may be your issue, because the tstat will not follow these if it is not already in that state. So if you’re not telling it to enter sleep mode, it’s not going to follow your sleep schedule that you’ve got set - because they do not automatically change modes. It’s dumb, I know.

Thanks, but even if I change between ‘home’ and ‘away’ within the scheduled times, it still will follow the temp preferences. If I change the temp, for example I wanted the house to be warmed to 70 not 68, I first programed the temp difference at the unit. It turned the heat on, then turned it off and let the house cool past the set 68. I did the same from my phone…same reaction. The only thing solution that I’ve found is to constantly mess with my temp preferences and if I want something outside of those, then I need to add a ‘hold’ to the unit.
I do have the system set to recognize my phones location, so it will automatically switch between away and home…does not change the temps outside of the preferences, and I’ve found that if I’m not home the system will still switch to the preferred temps that I have set - BUT it uses the times that are set for the schedule.
EX I’m out and have ‘sleep’ set for 9PM. The schedule says to cool to 70, preferences say below 74. When I check the app still while away from the house the app says enjoy your sleep and says its cooling to 74.

Hi @ bobcatharv

I installed my thermostat Jan 26, 2025 - Firmware 1.2.8 and Plugin 3.0.0

I am in Ontario Canada and use °C Schedules.

  • S M T W T F S
  • 12am Sleep 18.0°C 25.0°C
  • 8am Home 20.0°C 23.0°C
  • 10pm Home 19.0°C 23.0°C

So far the Schedule blocks have been activating with no problem.

I hate to ask, but is it possible you have enabled ‘Hold’ mode?

TerryL,
I actually have to enable Hold because the thermostat will not hold the schedule. So, I have change the temps throughout the day. I find that if I do not use the hold option I can set the temp at 72 (for example) in the schedule and manually, however if the preferences are set at 75, the system will always default back to 75. I have even experienced the issue while it’s programed to “hold” 72.

Hi @stonewallkate,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems using Schedules.
Thankfully my setup (described below) is working.

I installed my thermostat just over a month ago on Jan 26. I’m in Ontario, Canada and currently only using heating.

I found very little documentation on the relationships between Behavior, Schedules and Temperature Preferences and had to do my own experiments to figure things out.

I found that the Temperature Preferences set points:

  • Are reset to certain values if you change the Behavior setting, e.g.
    • Balanced sets Home 67°F 77°F
    • Better Comfort sets Home 68°F 76°F
  • Are selected when choosing Home/Away/Sleep from the “State” setting on the Thermostat or the App.
  • Are used as defaults for setting up a Schedule block.

When manually selecting a State, if your Schedule temperature set points are different from Temperature Preferences set points, the Schedule values takes precedence, e.g.

  • Based on time of day the ‘Home’ schedule is active.
  • Change State to ‘Away’ > Temperature Preferences ‘Away’ set points are used (until the next Schedule block activates).
  • Change State from ‘Away’ to ‘Home’ > If based on time of day the ‘Home’ schedule is active then the Schedule ‘Home’ set points are used.

Based on the above, my setup procedure is:

  1. Choose a Behavior
  2. Check/Adjust Temperature Preferences set points
  3. Set up Schedule blocks

My Behavior is ‘Better Comfort’

  • Note that Behavior also sets the Differential Temp.
For ‘Better Comfort’ value is 1°F and I override to 2°F

My Temperature Preferences are:
Home 20.0°C 23.0°C
Sleep 18.0°C 25.0°C
Away 16.0°C 28.0°C

My Schedule blocks are:
S M T W T F S
12am Sleep 18.0°C 25.0°C (Temperature Preferences Default)
8am Home 20.0°C 23.0°C (Temperature Preferences Default)
10pm Home 19.0°C 23.0°C (Override Temperature Preferences Default)

If I leave home for a few days:

  • I manually select the Away State (Away Temperature Preference set points are activated) and manually enable permanent Hold (Schedule is paused).
  • Before returning home I remove the Hold (Schedule is enabled) and manually select the Home State.

I tested Auto Switch and don’t use it due to the requirements for Location permission and battery usage from Wyze app running in background:

  • (Android) Permission for Location must be set to “Allow all the Time”.
  • Wyze App runs in background to detect location changes.
  • Switches between Home and Away states based on phone’s Location.
  • Leave home > Switches to Away state with Permanent Hold.
  • Arrive home > Removes Hold and switches to Home state, even if within Sleep schedule time period.

Well chalk up another Wyze thermostat that has bugs in the schedule. Mine has worked fine for a couple years but now will not automatically switch to Home state (20.5c at 615am). I’m not sure but it might be related to scheduling a second Home state (21.5c at 8pm). If the schedule only has one block it appears to work, but if I add a second block it just will not switch on schedule. I have deleted and rebuilt schedules a few times and it just wont work anymore. No updates to the firmware (other than a cert) for a couple years now. I think Wyze has abandoned this product along with it’s customer so pretty much ready to give up on Wyze.

So far I’ve been lucky that my schedule blocks work, including 2 Home blocks:

  • 8am Home 20.0°C
  • 10pm Home 19.0°C

Others have reported that their thermostat internal clock did not adjust on March 9 and they had to hard reset it, i.e. pull off the wall and plug back in.

Could this be why you aren’t seeing the state change at the expected time?

I think you’re right that Wyze has abandoned this product.
For now I will stick with it but I expect I will eventually buy an Ecobee, although if you read the Ecobee forums they also have issues.
