Still young? Put your clueless old person stories here!

He had achieved everything that I wanted to achieve, as a comedian. But he still got old, and he still aged. And there was nothing special going to happen because he had achieved this enormous artistic accomplishment…

And then he died…

…and then he died.

I remember that you introduced me to him at Lindy’s. I had morbid thoughts, because he was then quite old, really, and not in great shape, and I was very struck as I was sitting opposite him in Lindy’s, that he reminded me of kind of a Jewish uncle in my family, kind of a wisecracking Jewish uncle with a sarcastic wit, not that different from many of the characters that turn up at a wedding or a funeral or a bar mitzvah in a Jewish family, more gifted, clearly…

Fine car De Soto. First one I drove was a 1941 De Soto, three speed column shift.

Did you ever take it to the drive-in?

Most places in the US still have Drive In Movie Theaters.

Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling

I bet it was a rotary dial phone and you also had a neighbor on a party line phone circuit.

The dead geezer who directed Last Picture Show chose this as his first:

A drive-in figures in…

There is a Drive-In theater 10 minutes from my house that is still in operation, I haven’t been there in over 30 years.

I have not been to a drive in in 40 years. I was last at a movie theater about 30 year ago too.

With big screen TVs relatively cheap and streaming services offering lots of content there no need for me to go out to see a movie.

I don’t mean to brag, but I think I make better popcorn at home

Any popcorn suggestions. I used to make it in a pot on the stove with the seeds and some oil, haven’t done it in a long time but was thinking about it the other day. = Geezer. . Microwave popcorn is not what I was thinking about.

Not unusual. I sometimes holler at the wind blowing the clippings back in my face when on my riding mower.

For me, any decent brand of kernels and I use a hot air popper. kerryGold butter is my favorite to melt in a pan.

Drizzle the melted butter and salt and I am ready to watch a movie.

Popping in oil might taste better but I am trying to be somewhat healthy.

Love it!

I don’t know, Singing in the Rain in an original widescreen theater is pretty good. it’s been… thirty years…:joy: but it blew me away. Much fun!

I’m very good at that method. How about cowboy coffee? I bet folk here can rock that.

Try and find some coconut oil. Use about 4-1 with any other oil you like to use. Pop your corn with that.

I bought one of these for each member of my family. Talk about real pop corn, wow

Two old people struggled to come up with the name of a particular iconic Billie Holiday song and the best they could do was ‘Don’t Complain.’

Hush now, don’t complain
You’re my joy and pain
I’m glad you’re back
don’t complain

Near the bottom of an enclosed stairwell my elderly companion noticed my lace was undone and bent on one knee to fix it. I was a step or two up.

Another elderly person opened the stairwell door and beheld us.

Seeing her face, I laughed and said, no worries, she’s just tying my shoe.

If I were still young I would marry (any of) these three actresses:

  • Amy Adams
  • Julianne Moore
  • Leslie Mann

Not Renee Zellweger (except briefly in Jerry Maguire)…

And Marisa Tomei gets a very honorable mention.

If you were still young which actress(es) would you marry?

I think the majority of actresses have been recycled to many times. :upside_down_face:
