Are they trying to be jerks?
I’m pretty sure it’s effortless for them, or, as Yoda would say:
You should just fill the bowls with water so they can get a drink instead of throwing all their food on the ground every day. Just throw the food on the ground to start with.
I am trying to get them to eat most of the food. Once it is on the ground or if I throw it on the ground, they eat very little of it. It is not that they are picky about eating off the ground, it is more difficult to find uneaten seeds in the mess of empty husks.
Close your eyes and imagine Cookie Monster saying that.
I know Frank Oz did them both. In my mind, Yoda’s voice is closer to Grover’s than to Cookie Monster’s, though.

I dare them to go a whole week without dumping their treat bowl.
Why don’t you screw the bowl down? That way they can’t knock it off.
I have a 5-gallon bucket nearby that I dump the empty husks into every day.
