Set bulb brightness & color temp by Schedule without turning on

Any update on this? Interested in buying some smart bulbs but this is the one dealbreaker :frowning:

@mike.s

I can also confirm that this is happening to me. Working fine with white bulbs, not working with color, turning them on also.

This is the reason I got color bulbs, so I could schedule the colors … Any timeline

I’m experiencing the same issue. I’m using a rule to change color of my wyze color bulbs without turning them on…but it turns them on.

Can we please get an update here?

This is a pretty serious flaw in the color bulbs. I just got 8 color bulbs over wyze weeks and I’m on the verge of returning all of them. I already had preexisting rules to change brightness and color throughout the day with the wyze white bulbs I previously had. Now after upgrading to color bulbs and adding them to the same rules I find my lights turning on at those time even though there is no command to turn on. Just a command to set brightness and temp.

Basically anytime a color bulb receives any command (regardless if it should turn on or not) it will turn on. There is no way to adjust the color and temp for the next time the bulbs turns on. You have to manually do it every time or risk your bulb coming on without you knowing it’s on and it’s just wasting electricity. Not cool man. This is such a basic feature of a smart bulb and that fact that a fix wasn’t released IMMEDIATELY is very concerning. We shouldn’t have to come on here and beg for the basic features to work on the products we purchase from wyze.

This issues appears to have been going on for a while now and if I knew about it I wouldn’t have even purchased the color bulbs. I got 30 days on the return window. If there isn’t a fix by the end of that then they are most Deff going back to wyze for a refund. Very disappointed in this as this is a complete deal breaker for me.

What was the way you found to make this work with color bulbs? Color bulbs are the only bulbs I can’t make this work with.

@motoxmat4 I’ve not gotten it to work with color Bulbs. Attempting to schedule either brightness, color, or temp without turning on the bulb always results in the bulb turning on. @mike.s indicated in September 2019 that this feature was coming. That has not happened. The options themselves are there, they just don’t work as intended.

I have also run into this pretty clear flaw (bulbs turn on whenever I try to adjust anything) in trying to set up rules for my bulbs. This one seems like it ought to be really simple to fix if we could escalate it to the right people.

The other thing is that the color temp setting gradient in rules really, really doesn’t work for me. It pretends to be a gradient but there are truly only four settings, as opposed to the full range of color temperature settings accessible in the main bulb control area. To me this one seems like a bug.

Also, I’ll be filing this on the wish list today too, but why in the world can’t we use rules to set bulbs to user-defined scenes? This would make life so much easier for people trying to control these bulbs.

Adjust Wyze Bulb Brightness while Off?

Hopefully the title captures the question but I’ll elaborate.

At present, when I set a Wyze trigger to adjust the brightness and the bulb is off, when it adjusts the brightness, it turns the bulb on.

This is not good.

Similarly, if I set the bulb to adjust brightness when it turns on and then I adjust the brightness in Google Home it interprets that as a “turn on” event and triggers the “rule” brightness. So you can end up fighting the light bulb, every adjustment of brightness you make is a “turn on” event and boom reset brightness.

Less than optimal.

Others have mentioned the desire for a daytime brightness and a nighttime brightness (or even a night-light brightness) and this is my situation.

I do not want to turn the bulb on, not a flash, not a flicker, not a strobe, not a twinkle. I just want to bulb to set it’s brightness based on the time of day but keep its current on or off state.

This doesn’t seem like too much to ask for but I’ve been trying to get this to work in a reasonable way for the past couple of weeks and if our family kept a perfect schedule then, no problem, but we don’t and it is a problem.

Have I missed some solution?

Example: Regardless of whether the bulb is on or off, keep it in the current state but set brightness schedule to:
sunrise - 100%
30min after sunset - 50%
9:30pm - 10%
(and to really reemphasize, at no point should the bulb automatically turn on)

Also, adjusting the brightness should not trigger a “turn on” even in rules for the bulb (it currently does when adjusting in the Wyze app or the Google Home app). [This being the only reasonable workaround I can imagine but also annoying if we ever need to turn up or down the brightness]

As you know, this is currently the way it functions. I understand about making adjustments to the bulb without turning it on. I would post this as a Wishlist item:

Well, I had hoped I was just missing something. Do you think “Allow brightness adjustments while bulb remains off” is clear enough? I don’t want to oversimplify and miss the nuance since you can adjust it currently it just turns the light on.

Absolutely. However, here is a link to what you are asking for, I believe. I would vote for it, if it is:

Hm, that is tagged as “launched” – it also seems to conflate two issues.

  1. Schedules for bulbs
  2. Lamp turning on when adjusting brightness or color temperature via rules

Specifically, there’s a screen shot for 2.13.118 app that says:

Added the ability to change Wyze Bulb settings without turning the bulbs on with Rules

If this is accurate then it’s a bug not a wishlist item, right?

In fact, reading through the comments it seems it was implemented with some version of the bulb but no longer works with the newer bulbs. If this is true, then Wyze may actually believe this is a resolved issue and that it’s just user error.

It’s not listed on the Known Issues page either. Anyone have any insight?

It’s not a bug. The referenced wishlist item (now a Roadmap topic in launched status) is old and applied to Bulb v1, as that was the only bulb out at the time. The feature you wish to see implemented was unfortunately not carried over to the Bulb Color and Bulb White during development. We’re trying to decide whether to move this topic to a new wishlist request or reopen the old request and merge your topic. You don’t need to take any action. I’ll perform one or the other for you.

UPDATE 6/8/2022: Topic returned to Wishlist from Roadmap. This feature request has been implemented for Wyze Bulb v1. Topic returned to Wishlist to add feature to Wyze Bulb Color and Wyze Bulb White.

I guess I’ll chime in with my unasked for opinion

I think Wyze should get credit for launching on v1 and that thread is pretty extensive record of that. For the sake of credit when due, maintaining the historical record, and clarity that this applies to the new versions it seems reasonable to just start a new wishlist item.

And then lots of prayers? Should I sacrifice a few cameras to the Wyze overlords in the name of new-bulb improvements

Lol… you commented as I merged. Note your topic has been merged to the Roadmap topic, now back as a Wishlist topic to support Bulb Color and Bulb White.

Whatever gets it done, I’m super excited for. I’m sure it was great for v1 and for the new bulbs it will loved (as clearly indicated by this v1 thread).

This makes me realize that maybe password-free network connection for the current version of the bulbs may actually be a wishlist item and not a bug (as I originally thought). That’s a feature I’m waiting on before giving neighbors a recommendation for Wyze bulbs.

Please fix this soon. I bought new v2 bulbs and they are just on all the time because of my day/night brightness settings. A loss of feature or regression from v1 bulbs is unfortunate. Should I return the new bulbs and just ebay for v1 that have this working already?
