Yeah, I had to enable Developer options on the phone so that I could then enable USB debugging. Then with scrcpy installed on my PC and my phone plugged in via USB, my PC essentially becomes a wired remote access client to the phone. It’s not emulation or VM, it’s remote control of the actual phone.

Using that as a remote, I did a video capture of the phone’s display mirrored into a window on my PC so I could upload a demonstration of an issue I’m having with the new Wyze app.

Since you mentioned Android, doesn’t your Android vendor offer a screen mirroring solution native to the phone?

Yeah, all three of the Android devices I use routinely have that as a feature, but I get mixed results with them, as I mentioned elsewhere:

I tried the Screen Cast feature on three different Android devices, and only one of them (a lower-end tablet running Android Go) was able to cast to the Roku Express (the other two just didn’t see it, though they could see a Chromecast HD and other devices on the LAN). It worked really well, though! I was able to run the Wyze app on the tablet and see everything on the larger TV screen via the Roku, including doing a 4-camera group view in landscape mode.

I was using the “Screen Cast” feature that Android includes, and only one of three different Android devices I tried were able to recognize the Roku Express as an available “target” for mirroring (oddly, it was the lower-end tablet running Android Go that actually worked), but it connected and let me view the Wyze app on the larger TV screen via Roku, including letting me see a 4-group camera view in landscape mode.

It’s handy for throwing a phone’s display up onto a TV, but I don’t have a wireless keyboard, so if I’m using my PC and want to see my phone on its display, scrcpy seems better because I can use the keyboard and mouse to control the phone (it even recognizes a left-mouse-button click-and-drag as a swipe).

All of my phones, tablets and TVs are made by Samsung. They seem to connect easily to each other.

I would expect that. My current Android devices are branded Google, Motorola, and Lenovo.
