Since technology changes so much and stuff that might have been in archived threads might not actually work as a solution anymore, starting a new thread to get more current advice captured.
I would like to monitor the Wyzecam app on a full-screen device (and for cheap, or course.) Does anyone know if the App will work with any of the current cheap Google TV or Android TV boxes that are out there now (Fire, Google, Onn, etc)? BTW, if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone sitting in a drawer somewhere (S9 - S21), you can do this using DEX.
I know @ssummerlin uses Samsung DeX, and I occasionally stream Wyze Cams via Google Home to a Hisense running Google TV, but I’ve never tried side-loading the Wyze app APK onto it. I might have to try that sometime….
I have an older model of MeCool Android box that I was never able to download the Wyze App on it. I gave up many moons ago as I replaced it with an Apple TV. I would be curious if anyone had any luck installing the app on any Android TV box.
Works great on Samsung’s Android 14 OUI 6.1. Haven’t tried it on my new Android 15 OUI 7.0 yet. Works great with a full size keyboard, 22" monitor and a mouse.
I believe Samsung Dex may improve when Android 16 OUI 8.0 comes out next month or so.
After reading @p2788deal’s post, I installed AIDA64 on my Hisense Google TV and found that it’s also running 32-bit Android, so the best I could attempt with that is side-loading a Wyze app v2.50x APK.
Yeah, if you’re into the Samsung ecosystem, but I prefer stock or near-stock Android to what Samsung does with it. Even just using the Google Home features built into Google TV, I get decent streaming results, but I haven’t really tried to use those long term as a dedicated monitor, which it what it seems like @kimgkimg’s goal is. For something like that, running the Wyze app or possibly something like tinyCam Monitor (or tinyCam Monitor PRO) directly on the device might be preferable.
Actually I have it running on a Fire HD10 tablet in addition to my DEX setup. Doesn’t seem to like rendering 2.5K from the Wyzecam v4 though. I’ve only had it running at the lowest res on the Wyzecam v4. Has no problem rendering 1080p from the V3s though.
From what I understand OUI requires streaming through a Windows PC, right? DEX was always a standalone thing that just used the phone, no other external computing required.
Yeah, I had an Android 9 TV box that I was using for a while with TinyCam. However, that solution stopped working when Wyze forced the use of 2FA. That’s when I start using DEX instead.
One UI is just the GUI or interface. DEX stands alone. No Windows used. Just connect a monitor. You can use the phone as a touchpad and keyboard. I prefer a physical kb and mouse. I can even connect to my TV wirelessly and use a Bluetooth mouse and KB. DEX has come a long way. It can be set to 4K video with Goodlock.
Note 8 was many cellphone years ago. DEX can broadcast in 4K now. It also can connect wirelessly to my TV. I use a 7-port interface for my old 22" monitor.
Yes DEX is standalone, which is what makes it great for an external monitoring setup running the Wyze app. I have heard they’re getting rid of DEX though in OneUI7.
