Hi I need some simple help. I have Wyze plugs. Got them connected to WiFi, can plug lamps in and turn them on and off, but cannot figure out how to set up vacation mode for random on off. Can’t find you tube or user manual. I set up vacation mode and it looks like it is turned 0n, but it’s not turning my lights on and off randomly.
I know how vacation mode is supposed to work.i just need help on how to make sure it’s turned on- screen shots etc
I’m so frustrated. Came home from vacation to dark house,
You didn’t happen to mention which version of Wyze Plug you’re using (apparently there are three), but in my own personal experience with the original Wyze Plug “v1” from 2019 I have never seen Vacation Mode work properly. Even when I set my location correctly in the Wyze app at Account ➜ Home, “Vacation Mode” still triggers Bulbs and Plugs in the middle of the night, outside the expected hours, which I’ve seen because the lighting changes trigger motion events for indoor cameras when I’m not home and have that feature enabled.
A Help Center article describes how it’s supposed to work, and if you arrived at home to find that your Plugs were off, then that might not be unusual depending on your arrival time, even if it was within the daily windows when Vacation Mode is supposed to work, because when that feature does work (and in my obvservation it works with Plug Outdoor and newer Bulb Colors) it’s supposed to turn devices on and off randomly within those designated windows of time. You could’ve hit it at an “off” time.
How did you determine that it wasn’t working while you were gone?
Thanks so much for the reply. I determined that vacation mode didn’t work because lights were off (3 lamps) when I got hole at 6pm and none of them turned on during the next six hours (midnight when I went to bed) but the lights did turn on when I turned them on with the app
Also the firmware updates are not working, after attempting several times over the past year when prompted Don’t know if that is affecting things
You’re welcome. I’m still not sure which Plug version you’re using, but I suppose it’s possible that using older firmware could be at least part of the problem. Like I said, there are three different Plug versions. When I look through the different versions listed on the Release Notes & Firmware page, I don’t see a specific mention of updates related to Vacation Mode, but what Wyze puts out in the way of release notes tends to be pretty sparse, so that doesn’t mean that a newer firmware version than what you have doesn’t address the issue.
Depending on how much time you want to spend on this, at this point you could submit a log from the app and then open a ticket with Wyze Support referencing the Log ID to see what they might do to address it. They might be able to suggest something to get your Plugs updated. I’d be inclined to try a factory reset on at least one of the Plugs just to see if doing that and then trying to update the firmware through the app would be successful, but I don’t know if that would give you any better results or not, and my guess is that it still wouldn’t resolve the Vacation Mode issue (which I believe is just broken on some older products).
In the future, you could also just schedule specific on/off times for your Plugs when you’re going to be gone. That doesn’t give you the randomness of the Vacation Mode effect, but it’s something, and at least you wouldn’t have to return to a dark home. I’d still like to see Wyze fix this, though, so I’ll put my own testing and log submission back on my ever-expanding to-do list.
