Preventing accidental siren activation

I use my Wyze cams indoors for baby, nanny and pet monitoring, and therefore don’t have any use for the siren feature. In fact, the siren feature has become a problem because both myself and my wife have set it off inadvertently with a single errant tap in the app.

I would love to be able to toggle off the siren feature in the settings, but if that’s not feasible then at least have a second confirmation prompt to actually sound the siren. Neither the cats nor the sleeping baby have appreciated the accidental sirens!

Make sure you vote for your Wish as the system doesn’t add one automatically

You might be able to unhook the speaker if you are comfortable taking your camera apart. Here is a video on the v3.

For whatever it’s worth, some of what you’re requesting (ways to make it less easy to accidentally activate the siren) has also been discussed in another Wishlist topic:

I understand that what you’re requesting is specifically focused on the siren. That topic also has ideas suggested by users for Wyze to implement ways to prevent noisy accidents.

Voted out of sympathy. I also don’t use the siren. :white_check_mark:

I agree, I have a feral cat colony and when i check in, I have accidently hit the microphone or the siren and it causes quite the disruption.

Welcome to the Forum!

Please, please, please. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs that have been scared out of their minds twice now because I’ve accidentally hit the button while checking the camera in the middle of the night.

Maybe Wyze can be persuaded to add an option to enable/disable the siren in “Advanced Settings”? And also add to automation actions.

Oh, that’s a good idea. Like, group it with the other toggles? I like that. :+1:

PLEASE implement this. I just bought a v4 cam and created a forum account just to comment. It is absolutely crazy that this is advertised as a baby monitor but has a loud security siren feature placed just at the edge of the screen where it is easily brushed by a finger and activated. It’s so bad that I am considering returning the camera just for this reason. And the fact that there are similar complaints and feature requests dating back to 2021 (with nothing implemented) is in excusable.

I agree… I think an easy update would be to have a 2 step activation to activate the siren to eliminate accidental activation or to have a toggle in the advanced settings to turn off the button so it’s not even highlighted or even as the very last button on the menu to again eliminate accidentally pushing it. So many options I have accidentally activated it a couple times and woken up my daughter. Come on wyze team do something…

After re-reading this thread, I wonder if the siren is an issue with App version 3.xx? I am still using App version 2.50. To get to the siren I have to click on 3 dots labeled More (which I never do) to activate the siren. See my screenshot below.

This is an additional reason I like staying with App version 2.50.

@StevenA, I believe at least part of your experience is that you’re seeing the UI for Cam v3, not that it’s a v2.50x vs. v3x app issue. If I pull up a Cam v4 in either version of the app, the Siren button is right there in the menu bar beneath the view pane on the Live Stream screen, just to the right of the Smart Focus control. Depending on what device I’m using (phone screen geometry), I may or may not have to swipe the menu bar to the left to expose the Siren control. I think it’s more of an “old UI” vs. “new UI” issue and is thus somewhat a camera-dependent thing.

I would be thrilled with any of those 3 solutions!

I don’t even remember how many steps it takes to sound the alarm. What I did instead, is to create automation buttons to start and stop the alarm for all of my floodlights. I made sure sure the buttons are on the second page of my “Favorites” tab; that way, I have to swipe up to even see them. That’s enough to prevent an accidental press. But convenient enough that I don’t have to hunt for them when needed.

You are probably right. I only use v3 cameras on App version 2.50. Those that have issues with accidental siren activation might consider v3s on App 2.50 if my above screenshot looks appealing.
