Person Detection Update: A New Experiment for Premium Features

WYZE could probably delete these extraneous motion events, but the problem that those video have to be uploaded first before person detection can be processed still exists. That’s inefficient and a waste of resources.

WYZE could probably solve most of their problems by doing the following.

  1. No cloud storage by default, other than maybe a two week trial. But enable easy scheduled archive of video to a local network location.
  2. Enable Person Detection on camera like XNOR.AI
  3. Upload only Person Detected events to the cloud as part of a base subscription service.
  4. Charge additional fee subscription for complete motion capture + cloud enhanced person detection.

In this model everyone gets on camera Person Detection and its easy to archive video to a network location.

People who want PD stored on the cloud can pay a base subscription and those who want complete motion capture and enhanced PD can subscribe to the top tier subscription.

Data transfer, processing and storage required by WYZE would greatly be reduced while providing the service that most customers would be happy with.

Try disabling the LED lights. It makes such a big difference, nearly eliminating bug alerts. If you find it’s pitch black then maybe a night light.

r u sure that u understand what u are talking about?

for example,

“People” detection (and all the Smart video analysis and classification) is done on the Arlo server.

every one wants to do ai locally, but u don’t hv enough memory / cpu to do it.

p.s. i only have very limited experience on deep learning in image segmententation.

another way is to just give me examples that person detection is performed locally, there arn’t many!

Have 7 cameras - bought them in GOOD FAITH there would be no monthly/annual fees. Plan was to purchase couple of the new outdoor once they come available in Canadian market, but that’s now ON HOLD because of these charges. And now you are suggesting possibility of charge per camera No account. My offer: $1.35 Cdn monthly per account based on one can get 50g of cloud from Apple at that price.

Besides D-Link, Yi, Eufy, Simcam, Blurams, WESECUU, EZViz, Amcrest, and Lorex?

I’m assuming that we’ll have a chance to try it out before naming a price, yes?

The reason I’m asking is this - back when there was an agreement with XNOR.ai, I found the person detection definitely hit-or-miss. TBH, more hit than miss, but I can’t tell you how many times a car would drive through the “viewport” of the camera and it would flag it as a person. By that, I mean not just the times where a person could just barely be seen in the car, but times where no matter how much you blew up the video, you could not make out a person.

So, If I’m going to pay $N/mo., I want to know I’m getting something pretty decent for my money. I want to support companies like Wyze as I believe they do drive not only value for their customers, but help bring the market down to more reasonable costs globally. I just want to know I’m getting something in return.

So on the one hand, I appreciate the transparency and honesty we’ve always gotten from Wyze. Young and scrappy start ups give hope to what the internet is supposed to be about.

On the other hand, everything about Wyze is the opposite of what you’d want to align yourself with when choosing a home security company. I simply can’t continue to make Wyze part of my smarthome setup when I feel like the “We’re going out of business” email or the “We’ve been bought by…” email could come literally any day.

I appreciate that you guys are trying to break the mold when it comes to prices but I think more often than not you’re breaking it too hard. Then stuff like this happens and you’re in a lose/lose situation.

Ya see I don’t know how all the technical stuff works, but I wouldn’t be upset with a tier program. I Like the CMC+ and wouldn’t care to pay for the services/features. I work graveyards so I like getting alerted of a person is around my place after dark, but most times I have no alerts while at work and I simply go through my footage the next morning, to double check things and delete clips that are “nothing”. I might have 200 clips and out of 200 clips 1 or 2 might have a person in it, the rest are bugs or the stray cat or neighbors headlights. which I then save. I use an SD card but also like the idea of having a saved clip in the cloud in case some one was to steal my camera.

You only see this if you add a new camera.
Yes you have a choice but it’s not obvious. I have attached a screenshot that shows there is only one button, “Continue”. The only way to not start the trial is to close the app.
If you do start the trial you can opt out after.
I’m not saying this is some kind of conspiracy just that it is poorly designed for a company that claims server costs are a problem for them.

NO, you do not have to use PD.

Well it’s also “poorly designed” for a company claiming to treat customers as friends. Friends don’t sign each other up for stuff without permission. I hope they include a Skip or No Thanks button by the time this hits production.

There is or will be a CAM Plus trial.

Not even Amway? C’mon…

Well I did sign up friends for questionable things from magazine drop cards at the library. It was a simpler time. Also, somehow I have no friends.

I can’t get ANY response from ANY wyze agent here… and I can’t even get a direct response from support regarding why my person detection isn’t working now.

Why continue?

I’d expect to be able to have person detect on the outdoor cam. Just as anyone who BACKED Wyze - I’d expect them to BACK us up, too and provide it. And on top of fee based person detection there’s going to be something new added to that? Cam Plus? So… a double fee???

It’s just getting VERY convoluted.
and…
I suspect some double talk here.

thank you wyze… been ‘kinda’ fun while it lasted, but it seems your users are too often seen as beta testers and marketing test crowd.

You may not be able to organize and run a business, sticking to promises, but you can’t keep customers that way either.

So you are saying I should be sending in feedback … I have done a few feedbacks where I wasnt seeing a person in the person detection…I will be more dilligent in sending in video with no people in it…thanks…

This is not a support forum and not monitored by WYZE staff.
There is a support phone number. You can find it by searching the forum, I’ve seen it posted.

You should submit any PD clips, good and bad. They need to know when it’s working correctly too.

It migjt explain why the cams have to be cinched to the internet to work, you know the 1.5 he shut off if no internet (so they can call home). Can’t even set them up with internet then leave them recording to SD card with internet off. Prib their master plan from the beginning.
