Outside Condenser not running, air handler making thumping noise

It took me a while to get the thermostat installed. It is not cooling, my outdoor condenser is not running and when I do the self test the heat mode makes a repeated thumping noise. Like it’ll spin up for a second or two and then make a noticeable thumping sound and doesn’t put out hot air. Please help. Is anyone on here good with wiring
