Agreed, UL, ETL, CE, etc can be basically bought. That’s not to say they do not test anything at all but they’re far from any sort of reliable certification. On top of that there are so many items out there with fake approval (who ever actually goes and looks it up), honestly I never even pay attention to them.

That needs reported to ensure there are no safety concerns or eventual recalls needed. I had a bunch of Anker battery packs that were recalled, as some seem to burn houses down. Have to see if there is a pattern. https://www.saferproducts.gov/

A certain percentage of litium powered devices are going to experience this (even expensive cars). The risk increases as a battery gets old, and the fact that this is an outdoor cam also works against it. Given that this is an isolated incident from what I’ve seen, it likely would not result in a recall or anything. But absolutely work reporting it to Wyze (a Wyze employee has acknowledged seeing this and requested more information).

Generally speaking, once I start to notice a significant decrease in battery life on a lithium powered device, I replace the battery or discard the device. That’s when they are most likely to have a battery failure, and sometimes that can be catastrophic. Following good charging practices and trying to avoid extreme temps (especially charging at extreme temps) is always recommended also.

You or I have no idea if this is an isolated incident. The number of people on this forum is just a small subset. In my line of work we design products with lithium/ lithium ion batteries, they can fail early if they have construction or manufacturing issues, and has nothing to do with use cases. Just like the Anker recall.

True, but of that small subset, if this was a widespread issue, you’d expect more than one single instance.

The anker issue was widely reported by many people prior to the recall and even covered in tech news.

Anker reported 33 incidents and over 1 million sold of those potentially affected…… Not widespread by any stretch. But when your house burns down it certainly becomes a big issue for you.
