Only OG cam goes offline frequently

Yes if it is set like that picture then it is correctly locked at 20 (I remember that screen from my old Asus router). When set to auto some routers will show the current width next to it, was assuming that’s what they meant by “Auto 20mhz”. When a client supporting 40 is in range it will switch to 40 and that’s when some stuff starts having issues. But that won’t happen if it is set like that picture.

Although @mlarabee9524 if that screen is what your router is set to, I’d change the wireless mode from “auto” to “N only”. Or if it is a newer router it should have “n/ax only” or something like that.

On the 5ghz band it is good to lock that one too, should have “n/ac” “n/ac/ax” “n/ac/ax/be” or something like that. But that doesn’t affect the cams, just helps with the rest of your stuff.

I believe the setting you’re referencing is labeled 20/40 auto.

There is no standard, varies by brand and firmware/software version.

We are still talking about ASUS routers correct? I am sure the OP will chime in eventually.

Yup but theirs has changed a lot over the years too. The screen shot you posted is from the modified Merlin firmware (which is also what I ran). On my old router with Merlin it just says “20/40”. I haven’t gone into any of the newer firmwares (and there is also the “ROG” skin that you can enable on many models) so no way to say for sure what OP’s says. Doesn’t really matter, as long as it says “20” or “20 only” or something similar, that’s what you want.

Apologies for going silent. 10 days ago the same 3 OGs went offline same time. When I returned from traveling I reset them but swapped two camera locations, one that goes offline with one that does not - wanted to see if it was a connection issue. Yesterday the same 3 OGs went offline, including the one I swapped to a closer location. So it is not connectivity.

I have not tried the 20 only, still set to auto 20. I have an asus RT AX3000 router. Thoughts.

I would go through the router settings and look at the stuff I listed above. If not any of those things, I’d almost start to wonder if there is some issue with your power quality (brief brownouts or blips) or some false positive in the router’s firewall or malware protection if you have that enabled. I believe they call it AI Protect. When I used an asus router it never caused any issues for me but maybe have a look at the logs and see if it is showing stuff related to those cams.

The system log in the router can provide good insight too, there is a lot of stuff in there but if you can find the spot right around when the cam disconnected (can even search for the MAC address to find it) that might give some clues.

After reading several threads, it sounds like there is a known issue with the new OG cameras. If you want something reliable from WYZE, return the OGs and buy v4’s.

There are a couple of things that cause the dreaded “Device Offline”.

  1. The OG camera has disconnected from Wi-Fi
    • Check the Device Info Screen Signal Strength … if it shows 0 bars then continue to troubleshoot your AP/Wi-Fi
  2. The OG camera is connected to Wi-Fi but has lost Internet Connection to WYZE back-end
    • If the Signal Strength shows bars then the camera is connected to Wi-Fi but has lost it’s connection to WYZE
