I meant to post this last week, but kept forgetting! I took a time lapse from around midnight to 4:45am with my v3 and got pretty decent footage. Though, I think I might have to replace this camera because moisture seemed to get in behind the lens and the quality isn’t too good. I had gotten pictures on the 10th but wanted to get a time lapse overnight in case it fired up again. It did and after seeing this, I wish I’d gotten up to check things out and get more pictures! I also pulled the raw footage from the card and plan to edit some of the best footage together to get a more smooth time lapse.
What state is that from?
Northeast IL. Near the WI border.
Did you specifically order the
theme? That really looks awesome!
Yeah, that was a sweet capture. Only lasted 10 or so minutes – back to dim now. It will come and go, running the time lapse to dawn. ![]()
I am currently in Tucson, AZ and we are not seeing such spectacular light shows this far south. Then I remembered I have a V3 mounted with a Wyze Window Mount pointed out a north facing window in my house in Wisconsin.
I opened it up and viewed the playback and pulled a few screenshots. I also set up a time lapse.
There are some things I miss about that place. That’s better than any view I would’ve gotten from downtown Minneapolis, though. ![]()
That’s not to far away! We got lucky today. Lots of light pollution in my city.
Yes, my picture is from the suburbs of a major city. This is one thing light pollution can overcome, at least when viewed by a sensitive camera. ![]()
Here is a time-lapse video of my pic from last night:
There is a chance you can see Northern Lights tonight, 4/16/25 in northern states that don’t usually see them. I am in northern Indiana, and I usually wait for a G3-rated geomagnetic storm (they are usually G0), but I have seen alerts that the current storm reached G3 (on a scale of 5) for a time today. That intensity may return.
Currently they are predicting G2 thru 0600 UTC tomorrow (0200 EDT). I plan to set up a camera or two tonight to see if I see anything. Storms usually vary a lot, even if I don’t get alerted about a change in intensity. So G3 is still possible. I’ve recorded some pretty good ones here in northern Indiana at G3, even with our city light pollution!
You likely won’t see much other than a very slight glow by eye if you are in a city like me. However, a V3 or V4 camera in time lapse mode pointed north will properly catch it. You might even try pointing one straight up! I usually use the minimum 3-second time lapse interval, from sunset to sunrise, on a V4 connected to a battery bank in my yard.
Tonight’s midnight cloud cover prediction
Where a G2 storm may show northern lights (a G3 storm will move a bit further south).

I set up a time lapse of the northern sky to run from 10:30 pm to 4 am. Some cloud cover until midnight here in southeast Wisconsin. But no Aurora during the clear shies that I could see,
While I was viewing the video, a flash caught my eye. Thinking it may be a meteor, I went to the SD card and this is what I saw:
I cannot figure out what it is. It’s not a jet, there’s no movement. I don’t think it’s meteor for the same reason.
Maybe it’s a starship that jumped out of warp at high altitude and then left after it determined there is no intelligent life on this planet. ![]()
Any ideas @Bam ?
It is moving. Put your cursor on it, and you will see. I think it is the landing lights on a plane that is turning towards final approach.
Unfortunately, I also did not see any aurora here in northern Indiana. ![]()
Did you really capture Northern Lights with a wyze cam? I’ve been trying to figure out how to request a wyze cam that has the capability to change the ISO and shutter speed
Yes. You need a V3 or newer. Any of the Wyze cameras that have the color night vision feature will work.
There are a number of posts here on the Forums and in the Facebook Core Community. There is at least one person on Facebook that lives in Alaska and has posted some beautiful time laspe videos.
Yes, you certainly can capture them either in real time or time lapse. I’ve managed both. The v3 really only worked for me in night vision, but the v4 is fantastic for color night vision. Here’s the time lapse I took of the October 2024 with my v4: https://youtu.be/nG2DuBTTwyY
