I’m not the only one having this problem. I bought a ton of wyze products and for over a year they have been fine … Until Now !!! Out of nowhere and for no reason all my cam 3s stop connecting in the app. My thermostats, smart plugs, and pan cams still worked but not my cam 3s… hmm… So i thought to myself, maybe i need to restart my phone. That didn’t fix anything. So maybe I need to update the app. hmm… WAIT!! google play store now says my phone is not supported for this app … WAIT WHAT??? The apps been on my phone for over a year … So let me get this straight WYZE CAN JUST DECIDE TO FORCE ME TO HAVE TO BUY A NEW PHONE WHENEVER THEY WANT OR I CANT USE THE APP ANYMORE! I can use chrome and actually connect to my cams on my laptop. I know for a fact its not the cameras, its the app. They just decided one day that the aristo 4+ android 9 is no longer accepted. Why can’t Wyze continue to release past versions of their app, why do they only allow you to download the latest version. Most tech companies normally allow people to download older versions of their apps… BUT NOT WYZE no they expect you to go to a shady 3rd party sites and try and download some pirated older copy and side load it onto your devise while praying to the android gods that there is no virus in the download. I have text, emailed, and spoke by phone to tech support and every time they ignore me by saying “Ok sir we will have another tech support guy look at your problem and he will email soon” So I wait, only to get a stupid email from some guy telling me to do basic crap like “did you try restarting your phone?” really… really… Ive done restarted, deleted, factory reset, and everything imaginable to my phone. Then one tech support lady tells my over the phone “oh well sir your phones not compatible anymore sorry you need to go buy a new one” Im paying a monthly subscription for a service I cant use now. What the heck man. What do I have to do to get this fixed. Do I have to drive down to wyze in person with my cell phone??? let me know if anyone else on here is also having this problem
No you’re not. You may wish to comment in or subscribe to this topic:
One of the Forum Mavens indicated a plan to post an update in that topic, because it seems like certain models of phones have been excluded from this latest app update, and we in the community are trying to learn why.
In case you are unaware, the manufacturer of your phone (LG) no longer supports your phone. LG withdrew from the mobile phone industry over 3 years ago. Your phone no longer meets the security standards required by app developers. But you still have the ability to sideload apps at your own risk.
I was certainly unaware. Thank you for sharing this.
Oh my God THANK YOU Seapup !!!
I finally got an answer. Sure its not the answer I would like the hear, but at least I know now Thank you.
It makes me feel better to know it was the cellphone company and not Wyze screwing over its customers. That makes me feel better about having to buy a new phone just to keep my wyze app. Again Thank you Seapup
Yeah Seapup explained why LG stopped working but I wonder why your wife’s Motorolla isn’t working??? hmm…
Uh…that wasn’t my post. I included a link to a topic begun by another user whose wife’s Motorola won’t load the app from Google Play Store.
Since you seemed to mention earlier that your current phone is running Android 9, I’d be inclined to seek a replacement even if the Wyze app did install on that phone. That version of Android was introduced over 6 years ago, and I’d be surprised if that device has received any security updates within the past 4 years. I imagine you stopped getting those on that phone well before LG stopped supporting it.
I’m all for trying to squeeze as much use as possible out of older devices, sometimes just for the fun of it, but for a phone that I’d depend upon for reliable daily use I’d want something with a currently supported operating system.
I hope you can find a new phone that lasts you a long time!
Highly recommend Samsung or Pixel, since this was tagged Android…
With the release of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung committed to 7 years of software support for the lineup - that’s both OS and security updates. Samsung wasn’t the first - Google promised 7 years to the Pixel 8 series, but OnePlus believes anything beyond 5 years is just wasting resources.Mar 29, 2024
I too recommend Samsung. You can easily get a phone on their Edge plan with a bundled service plan and pay only 40 or 50 a month if youre very careful in picking your phone and service. One thing to be extremely mindful of is to find one with a $0 Save and Return credit. I recommend Samsung since they like to keep their phones going for ages. I had my last phone Galaxy S10 until the S20s were out. The battery finally died, puffing out so much it popped the back plate off. Right now I have an s21+ and honestly I love it. I pay $10 a month for 24 months with $0 Save and Return credit to pay at the end of 2 years and decide to keep it. If for example I had a $385 Save and Return credit, I have a week to return the phone to not owe anything. If I keep that phone, I’d owe $385 due my very next bill. This is why I choose a slightly older phone with a $0 S&R credit balance.
Actually, an app increasing minimum OS version or not running on certain devices is a lot more complicated and gets into a bunch of different things.
With the increased minimum, it is however, definitely not Wyze at fault. They could maintain separate projects but don’t have the money to do so anyway so that won’t be happening. Instead, they’re forced to increase at times.
Mobile devices today if you want them to last longer have two important aspects. Number of years of major OS version upgrades and number of years for security updates. As others have said, only Google Pixel and Samsung devices have what I consider minimum for this. You need to have that higher amount for both if you want to keep devices for more years as you indicate.
