New leak sensors

Just got my new leak sensors. We are leaving for an extended time and are looking for something to ease worried minds. Last time we did this we shut the water off to the house. That was fine until the toilets dried up and a rat came through the drain plumbing and up through a toilet. Hoping to avoid that this time. I tested the first sensor in the kitchen sink. Put in the stopper and let water run slowly. The sensor was in standing water for several minutes without an alert. Only when there was enough water to make it float did it detect and alert. It seems to me that our one story, built-on-a-slab house could still flood if water has to get that deep. Can anyone assure me that they work better than that?

No, they are not trustworthy in my opinion & prior experience. Get another brand before you leave!

How about shutting off the water to your house and put chicken wire over each toilet bowl with the lid down?

Turn the water back on when you get home and flush all toilets a couple of times before lifting the lids.

I lived in a South American country for a few years, and this was a problem even with water in the toilet. We always kept the lid down, with a brick on the lid.

Note to self…. Test my Leak Sensors this weekend…..

Question to others that have Leak Sensors: Once a Leak Sensor has alarmed by a water event, how long does it take to ‘dry out’ ?

My experience with the v2 leak sensors is that they often don’t tell you when there is a connectivity issue.

Others seem to have similar and varied issues. If they work when you test them, great. But will they work in X weeks or months when you need them to?

Than was an old post. Hopefully they fixed the hub by now.

I chose posts from 2023, 2024, 2025… do you have any more relevant years I could include?

In fact, instead of fixing the hub, it isn’t even compatible if you have AI Descriptive Alerts on. So I don’t think Wyze is very invested or interested in the sense & hub components.

I wouldn’t trust on them for vital alerts like water leaks.

Yolink looks impressive for leaks.

Thanks for sharing the recommendation.

I can say my SimpliSafe v1 and v2 systems have reliably reported leaks for many years now, so I can recommend them. There is a subscription to get alerts outside the house, though.

Popular Mechanics likes YoLink and has some good tips when shopping for a leak detector.

Magazines like Popular Mechanics and Reader’s Digest are commissioned for good reviews. Hopefully they don’t also fill the forums with bots recommending them; hence first hand info seems more beneficial for these critical products.
