You should create a snap-on smart switch.
I tried purchasing this one: https://smile.amazon.com/Switchmate-Rocker-Switches-SimplySmartHome-Listens/dp/B06Y2HL3SP/. Mechanically, it works great, but their app was horrible (never got to make it work) so I returned it.
It is a great solution for people who rent and don’t want to change any wiring.

I have one of these. Works pretty good. I have it on one of the switches that is a three way switch. With Zigbee, its added to your network via Alexa app and controlled via voice or the Alexa app.
