My Un-Bricked v4's

After my v4 got KOed by a firmware update, I managed to Un-Brick it and now have a usable camera. My question is, “usable for what“. It won’t work anywhere but in Wyze app running on native Android. Since that is not the way I use a camera and it won’t allow me to use anything but a phone to view it, it has become virtually bricked again. I suppose Wyze in their wisdom has figured out how to get more money out of me by selling me an add on program that would allow my v4’s to have an actual use.

Could someone tell me how to make use of my v4’s without having to buy some service?

The latest version of tiny cam pro supports it, as does wyze web view (which includes one camera for free).

If you were using some other 3rd party software that stopped working, you’ll need to wait for them to update their software, or downgrade your firmware on the v4 (and disable auto updates).

I have no other 3rd party software. I run Win 11 > Bluestacks > TinyCam Pro and Wyze app next to it. I have 3 apps on a dedicated Android 13 phone. They are Wyze app, Deco app and First Alert app for my HVAC thermostat.

I don’t even have a service provider for the phone. I use Google Voice for my home phone. I am 84 and go virtually nowhere but to doctors, so don’t need a roaming phone.

Bluestacks and Tiny Cam are both 3rd party software. Tiny Cam Pro has supposedly been updated to work with the new firmware, as far as I know bluestacks hasn’t. But bluestacks supports RTSP so that’s a solution for your v3 cams at least (hopefully the v4 also as mentioned in another thread).

Things are coming together since I now have all my V3 and one of my two v4 cams up and running fine in my original TinyCam Pro (yes, I paid a huge $2.95 for it years ago). The other v4 will soon be rolled back and I think I will then have everything running solid.

Yup, you’re on the right track. Maybe this summer you’ll be able to look at an RTSP solution since both models will hopefully support it by then. Though that may or may not do what you want, and what you have may be the best solution.

I am interested in streaming RTSP to VLC or another 3rd party app. But so far I don’t like the looks of what Wyze has online. Docker wouldn’t have anything to do with Wyze.

So far people are reporting RTSP working well on the v3. I haven’t tried it on my Panv3s, not really any use for it. It can be a bit of trial and error to get working, but once it is, it gives you a lot of flexibility.
