Motion Sensor: What can it control?

Can it turn on a Wyze bulb? A Wyze plug? If so, can it also turn off these after a period of time?

Thanks in advance.

I know it can a bulb and yes you can set it off after a time, or after a time of no motion.
You can also have it record a short video.
If you have IFTTT, you can have it control other devices by other vendors.

Thanks for the quick reply. I dont have a camera in that room, but I wanted to light a bulb with either the bulb itself, or plugged into a smart plug. Can the hub be placed anywhere in my home or does it have to be close to the bulb/plug?

a web search says within 500 feet, ideal

I use sensors to control lights on my landing at the top of the stairs, I have one at the bottom of the stairs that automatically turn lights on when I start up the stairs, and I have one at the top of the landing so if I were to walk out of my bedroom at night, it turns everything on and after that sensor at the top becomes clear they turn off again. That elapsed time is about a minute so it gives me plenty of time to get downstairs and I don’t have to worry about anything staying on. Also when I go upstairs I don’t have to hit any switches everything just turns off after a few seconds when I enter a room. They’re very versatile and work for a lot of things!

The hub will work pretty much anywhere within a decently sized home assuming you don’t have any electrical interference or materials in your home to block the signal. But play around with it and always assume that if it’s not working, test it closer to the hub first and slowly move further and further to where you want to place it and you should be able to troubleshoot and see where your issues lie. If anything you can always move the hub if needed if you happen to have a mesh system in your house.

Great info. Thank you. I just have never used motion sensors in my place. Its small, so the distance isnt an issue. I’ll order the kit and see if it works for me. Thanks again!

A few things to keep in mind: Nothing works if the internet is down. There maybe a delay (short) from the time the sensor detects motion and the desired action takes place due to internet speeds.

I have both Wyze and YoLink sensors and for many reasons I prefer YoLink. One of them is that they work even if the internet connection is down and if configured correctly action is immediate.

Well here’s a little trick you might like, they do pick up at a distance quite well but obviously there are certain times you don’t want it to pick up, using a couple of small right angle brackets and 3M command strips so they’re easily movable, I made this one so I can walk past my stairwell and not have it trigger but in order for two trigger I actually have to start up the stairwell.

One of the huge things with the sensors is the angle they’re at and it’s capability to catch movement. Because I have this on two right angles I can angle it on multiple axis and adjust it however I need. I did something similar for my outside pan cameras as well because I can hang them in a certain way and adjust them on top of their movement themselves.

Just an idea if you’re looking to get creative for cheap

I found it just putting them flat on the wall gives a very broad range and the only real adjuster you have is the height. Works for some instances but it’s always nice to have other options
