Motion sensor false alarms after battery change

low battery → changed batteries to a premium brand → motion sensor started giving false alarms in the middle of the night, requiring a delete. fortunately, i have sensors covering sensors of other types for redundancy so not too damaged. but still? is their a fix coming, or should i simply replace the possibly defective unit.

Did you delete it and set it up again as I’m having the same issues after a battery change with the door and motion sensor. Next week I’m going to delete and start again as I can’t set the alarm now as it is.

My Motion Sensor V2 is also giving “False Alarms”.
I set it up to turn on a garage light when a person enters the garage.

Battery is good, new battery.
Signal strength is good.
Plugin version 2.4.0.129
Wyze App version 3.0.5(9)
iPhone XR (iOS 17.6.1)

From Wyze website: “Wyze Motion Sensor is designed to detect people, not pets”
I don’t have any pets.

False detections makes the automation integration useless.
I added the option to start recording once motion is detected to try and see what the heck was detected,… there is nothing on the videos… no person, no shadow… But still the detection activates.

I tried with the 3 sensitivity levels, no difference.
See attached image with false motion detections.

False alarms with the motion sensors have been a problem since the V2 versions were introduced. Yours were working, now not. They can be triggered by virtually any heat source, like a central heating duct.

The problems seem to be random, without any identified trigger.

I’m going to delete my motion and door sensors and start again and see if that cures the issue. We shouldn’t have to go through this just to change a battery.

Thanks WildBill.
The only heat source nearby (in my case) would be the car parked in my garage.
But still I get the notifications several hours (more than 12 hours) after parking the car, and even when there is no car parked in the garage.

I’ll delete and re-add the V2 sensor just to see if that clear things up for a while.

But, will there be a fix from Wyze?
Do you know if they have at least acknowledged the issue ?

Who knows…most of the time support just wants to send replacement sensors that then do the same thing (but only if the faulty ones are under warranty).

Last night I re-added the Motion Sensor V2 to my Wyze app and haven’t received any false alarm yet.

Looks like this does the trick, at least for now…

But seems to me that having to delete → and then re-add wyze devices is only a workaround and it is becoming more common / frequent than it should be.

Did you delete it first or just re-add? You can just re-add without deleting it which keeps any automations, etc. so you don’t have to recreate them. You can always delete if the simple re-add doesn’t work.

Thanks WildBill.
I deleted it and then re-added it, to let it start fresh.
So far seems to be holding, haven’t seen any false alarm notification.

Re-adding the V2 motion Sensor to the App, did get rid of the false alarms/notifications. BUT the sensor itself is totally unreliable. Signal is strong and battery is new.

To test, I enter my garage with no cars parked in it and walk totally in the field of view (FOV) and the sensor fails to pick me 8 or 9 out of 10 times.

Simply these V2 motion sensors cannot be trusted.

Can anyone recommend a good motion sensor compatible with Alexa ?

YoLink makes excellent products. You need a hub in addition to any sensors.

Thanks WildBill,
I’ll check those out.

I had an issue once I switched to new batteries. It still set off a false alarm and detecting motion. Bought a new sensor. Deleted the old one and added the new. Worked perfect all week and then 4:30 am Sat. Motion detected and another false alarm. Left the alarm in home mode for the weekend without the sensor and no issues. Set it again this morning and within an hour, motion detected, Alarm tripped . Not sure what to do now??

As much as I would like to say the Wyze Motion Sensor V2 works, I found this motion sensor (the V2) is totally unreliable.

Seems like it is an issue. Do far customer service via email is useless too. Going to call later and feel that out. Worst case scenario is a return the sensor I bought and just use the door sensor and no motion detection to keep things armed.

You can, I think, remove the motion sensor from the active sensor list in HMS. I don’t have it any more but I seem to remember having to select which sensors I wanted to use.
