Link Requesting My Info Related to Wyze

I just updated my payment info on Wyze. After the info was updated (not part of the process), I received an email from Link demanding I confirm my email address which I am ashamed to admit I automatically clicked on even though I have been on Wyze for years with the same email address and was never asked to do this with previous payments. This is terrible security! On doing this, Link then starts asking me all of these highly personal/private questions and says I now have an account with them! I DON’T WANT AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM AND I DON’T WANT TO GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!!!

  1. How do I delete this Link account as I can’t find any way to do so on their site

  2. Is Wyze forcing me to have a Link account and give them my info to use Wyze? If so, I am done with Wyze!

  3. EXACTLY WHAT INFORMATION HAS WYZE ALREADY GIVEN LINK (without my knowledge or permission I might add)

  4. How do I stop Wyze from sharing any info with Link in the future?

For those don’t know, Link is an absolutely massive data broker buying and compiling customer info across a huge number of major companies and websites. They ā€œlinkā€ all of your shopping and buying habits
(right down to how many seconds you spend on each site and product page), personal info, driver’s license, banks/cards, credit history, late payments, debt, legal records, and even collect healthcare provider info (and all health info associated with your payment when you use them), etc. and work directly with Flock, Palantir, PayPal, and all levels of law enforcement across the country. They collect a shockingly detailed picture of users and then compile and match this info across sites, platforms, and other data brokers to create some of the most detailed pictures of people and their lives currently available. I DON’T WANT THEM TO HAVE ANY OF MY INFO AND I DEEPLY RESENT BEING FORCED INTO USING, GIVE THEM ANY INFO THEM, AND THEN FORCING ME TO USE THEIR PLATFORM/GET AN ACCOUNT! It makes me really wonder about the privacy of my Wyze devices (if it uploads any data to a website or an app, Link and others will find a way to Hoover it up). Link also uses some of the most hideously invasive, hard to get rid of cookies and tracking in the business.

Do I need to walk away from everything Wyze now just to stay safe and private? I am absolutely furious and getting ready to start uninstalling all of my Wyze devices and delete my Wyze account and app. I am livid!

Okay, I called them. They hide the info to delete accounts, but if you point blank ask them, they have to tell you. Here’s the link for Link in case anyone else wants to do this:

FYI, Do you have any idea how hard it is to search for any information on a company called ā€œLinkā€. Search engines try really hard to interpret it as a request for info on a link to a website.

I’m glad you figured out how to delete your link account. This can vary a little depending on the data broker, but they all have to permit it.

There are a few dozen "major"data brokers in the US, and 5,000 total, globally (close to 2,000 total in the USA).

Deleting your current record is only half the battle.
To stop them from re‑collecting your data, you must explicitly request:

  • Do Not Sell My Personal Information
  • Do Not Collect My Personal Information
  • Suppress my record from future ingestion

Most brokers support this because they’re legally required to under certain laws.

Pro tip: Use a unique email for opt-outs
This prevents brokers from linking your opt-out email to your real online accounts. (Or have a data broker removal service do it for you instead)

Companies often restart a profile on you anyway, so it can be helpful to pay a removal service to check every few months. The top data broker removal services include:

  • DeleteMe (by Abine) - (most thorough & human verified)
  • Incogni (by Surfshark) - (Best Price for value)
  • Optery (Best for Performance & DIY)
  • Several others.

I have actually looked into using several. I will probably start paying for one in 2-3 years from now to automatically keep me out of all the data brokers.

Thanks for sharing how to delete your link account. One caution I would add here is that Deleting an account (the one you created with a username and password) is different from deleting your record (the data the company has collected about you from public sources or third parties).

Somehow you still need to trigger a Data Deletion Request (sometimes called a ā€œRight to Erasureā€ or ā€œDSARā€ request).

Look for the ā€œLegal Footerā€
Scroll to the very bottom of the website’s homepage. By law (especially with 2026 updates), most companies must now have one of these links in the footer:

  • ā€œDo Not Sell My Personal Informationā€
  • ā€œYour Privacy Choicesā€ (This is the new 2026 standard)
  • ā€œExercise My Privacy Rightsā€

Submit a ā€œNon-Accountā€ Deletion Request
I’m not very familiar with link specifically but if you can, Search for yourself on their site as if you were a stranger.
Once you find your profile, copy the URL (the link to that specific page).

Go to their ā€œOpt-Outā€ or ā€œPrivacy Requestā€ form and paste that URL. This tells them exactly which record to scrub from their public database, not just your user account.

If you can’t find a form, every company is required to list a contact for privacy issues in their Privacy Policy. Search the policy for the word ā€œDeleteā€ or ā€œ@ā€ to find an email address.

My understanding is that they are one of the cheapest ā€œsecureā€ online payment processors. So people and companies sign up with them for the cost savings and convenience.

What part of the reason they are so much more affordable than everywhere else is because they appear to supplement the actual transaction costs of operating by using the information they gather to let advertisers know what will likely be effective for a certain advertising profile.

The concern is that this payment provider will collect info on what you buy and where, and use that to sell targeted ads to those account profiles around the Internet. That is why they are cheaper than competitors who also do payment processing like stripe or whoever.

It’s nice that they say they don’t ā€œsellā€ your personal data, but no where do they say they don’t ā€œshareā€ your personal data with other companies that might be selling or using your personal data for profit.

OK so now the story becomes clear. You accused wyze of selling your data to a data broker called Link, and in this post you continue to say they are a massive data broker. In reality you used the Link wallet service to pay for your wyze subscription.

Why would you choose to use that service if you don’t agree with their practices? Wyze accepts other payment methods, you weren’t forced into anything.

The only reason your info was shared with link is because you chose to pay using it and they need to know what you’re buying and confirm your information to make sure you’re legit. If they make some of their money by selling your information, why would you choose to use it?

Link wallet is part of Stripe, though i don’t think you’re required to use it to just make a simple payment, it is an additional service you can opt into in order to use it for recurring payments across vendors etc.

But you have the option to use Paypal or just do a one time payment via stripe without having to use a wallet service.

If I Opt Out of Data Sharing in the app, is Wyze agreeing NOT to share or sell any of my data (personal information)…

…or am I merely asserting my preference that they not share or sell it, and Wyze may choose to honor my preference or not, at its discretion (and in accordance with its complete legal Privacy Statements?)

Also, what is the difference between ā€˜personal information’ and ā€˜data?’ Wyze is playing a bit fast and loose with the terms in this ā€˜Opt Out’ offer.

I’m afraid of I’ve become a naughty naughty fatalist over the last six or seven years. If you’re born bent over in the receiver’s position it probably indicates something. :wink:

I clicked this and now I am getting 6 to 8 emails from Link a DAY demanding I give them my bank account info and use them for all of my online payments and this was AFTER I completed their account deletion procedure! I am furious with Wyze for putting customers in this position! There was zero warning or information from Wyze that they were connecting my account with them to Link and zero warning and information from Link stating that verifying my email would create a totally unwanted account with Link! From the email, all it says is that I need to confirm my email and having just made a payment, I was concerned the payment wouldn’t be processed without it. Gross negligence if not flat out malpractice by both companies. I DO NOT WANT ANY ASSOCIATION WITH LINK! I only agreed to one with Wyze and now I have been tricked into one against my with Link!

No one has answered my questions here either - exactly which pieces of my information has Wyze given Link?

I’d say Wyze is probably trying to be as straightforward and forthcoming as they can – within the limits of corporate law.

I’ve owned Wyze cams and been active on this site for ~6 years. I have no experience with other cloud cam security companies.

I wasn’t aware of the connection, so thanks! I didn’t volitionally create a wallet; I think maybe that must be just what Wyze uses to store payment information since they apparently require a payment method on an account as long as a subscription is active. (The system won’t let you delete a card, for instance, if a subscription is active. I’ve tried.)

The same thing happened to me. I was alarmed when I clicked on Verify Your Email and a page came up informing me that I had created an account and it showed the last 4 digits of the credit card I’d just entered in my Wyze account. I went to Link’s website to try to find an opt out. There was a form to delete your account. It said enter your email and we’ll send you an email where you’ll need to confirm that you’re deleting your account. I tried this several times and never received an email from them. I also read on their site that it can take up to 120 days to remove your information. That gives them plenty of time to share it with others and it’s unacceptable.

So I called Wyze’s support line. Waited 35 minutes before I could talk to someone. Told the guy what had happened and he didn’t know anything about Link. He put me on hold 3 times, then came back and told me Wyze does use Link for payments. I asked him if it was a requirement to use Link to pay on Wyze and he said no. He couldn’t tell me why Link sent the email confirmation or how to opt out.

So I searched and finally found a phone number for Link, but when I called I got a message saying they only answer the phones Mon thru Friday. Today is Saturday so I’ll try again on Monday.

My credit card number was stolen after I’d made a purchase on Target’s website and I had to wait 5 business days to get my new one. Then I spent quite awhile changing passwords and putting my new card number on 8 websites I use that automatically charge my card. Wyze was the last one and now I’ve got another mess to clear up.

I’m usually super cautious and never click on anything in emails that I’m not sure of, but this email popped up immediately after I changed my payment method on Wyze. There’s a link at the bottom of the email that says, ā€œFor questions or concerns, contact Wyzeā€ and when I clicked on ā€œcontact Wyzeā€ it took me to Wyze’s support page.

So yes, it’s legitimate, but I also feel tricked and violated. If I actually get a person when I phone Link on Monday I’m going to let them know I’m upset and if they don’t remove all my information off of their website immediately I will be contacting an attorney.

I have a feeling I’m going to have to call my credit card company and get another new card.

You have no idea how much I appreciate your post! If you do reach a human, be sure to tell them you’re not the only one who’s mad as heck about this. If you do go the legal route, I’ll join you. I would imagine there are more than enough Wyze customers who would want to join for it to meet class action status too.

Wyze really needs to get involved here and either get Link to stop doing this to their customers or change payment processors to one of the many major processors with more experience who pride themselves on not selling or giving out customer info and who act much more professionally than Link. Most importantly, all of the major payment processors would never require customers create accounts with them and who would never engage in this kind of underhanded trickery where an account is automatically created without the customer’s knowledge or permission. This, right here, is where you have grounds for legal action as they never put into any of those emails that by clicking on the link, an account is automatically created.

Since they have so much of our info including our card info, this is a really big deal. If there’s a data breach between now and then and anyone is harmed as a result, that’s big time legal liability. There’s no excuse for not being able to delete everything immediately either. I am assuming this is so they can use it to harvest and sell your info for as long as possible as this is where they make their money. The income generated as a payment processors is a fraction of what they get from selling customer information. Even worse, Link is one of the companies selling our data to Palantir and then resold/used by ICE. I don’t want anything to do with these companies! Is Wyze good with being known as a company that’s associated with this? If I was them, I would cut my losses and switch to another more ethical processor even if it costs a little more.
