Interesting display of the different delays from separate cameras. You see how one lightning flash appears on the seven screens at different times.
Just had lightning strike very close to the house!
It was so close and so fast none of the cameras caught the actual flash of the lightning, but you can sure hear the sound and see the static interference in the video as a white stripe across the screen!
5 of the 10 cameras I have operating around the house are plugged into ground fault protection. It never tripped! Two of the cameras shut down, could not connect. But only one came back.
Of the 10 cameras I have working right now, two of them went down, unable to connect, 1 of them came back after a few minutes on its own, the last one, a V4 surprisingly, still hasn’t recovered.
I’ve power cycled a few times, it’s not coming back! ![]()
Here is a cool lightning strike video from a couple of years ago. Thanks for posting your videos.
Scared the bird doo out of those birds!
So I replaced that V4 camera with a spare that I had, it still didn’t work!
It turns out not only** did it toast the V4 but it toasted its power supply, as well**
That’s insane!
I had to put a new camera and a new power supply out outside to replace that camera that was taken out by that very close lightning discharge!
Amazon Prime time to replenish those burned out cameras!
There’s a utility pole at one corner of our backyard. I’m sure there’s a lightning arrestor there, so I’m not too worried about lightning striking the house itself. But the voltage surge is still a problem. I had a desktop motherboard fried during a severe thunderstorm.
I just had lightning strike nearby and it not only blew up my V4 camera, but it took its power supply out as well. The funny thing is I have nine other cameras around the house, and none of them were affected. One of my Logitech cameras Disappeared for about 10 minutes but came back on its own. The rest of my cameras are all WYZE and they held up just fine !
Had to break out an old OG to replace it.
(what’s this I hear about a 2025 OG? What’s the difference?)
