Lamp socket/motion sensor

Why haven’t they, or is there a way, to have a motion sensor turn on a lamp socket unit? If it can connect to a camera, why can’t it connect to a motion sensor? That would make motion sensing/lights on/off so easy. I understand there’s the outlet plug, but why not be able to use both? Seems easier than requiring a camera.

If you can use a Wyze Sense Motion Sensor to initiate a Device & Service Trigger Automation (I don’t have any of the Sense devices, so I don’t know what’s possible), then you should be able to use that to turn on a Lamp Socket v2’s bulb, but that socket still requires a compatible Wyze Cam for initial setup and allowing this kind of control. This is from the FAQ on the product page:

Can I use Wyze Lamp Socket v2 without a Wyze Cam?

No, Wyze Lamp Socket v2 requires a compatible Wyze Cam for initial setup in the Wyze app and most other functions. Features like Automations, Al detection, and controlling the lamp socket in the app require a Wyze Cam. Without a compatible Wyze Cam, you can only use the lamp socket as a USB power source.

That implies that once the Lamp Socket v2 is installed and configured you should be able to control it with Actions in Automations.

From what I’ve read, the Lamp Socket v2 does require a Wyze Cam for the initial setup, so that’s probably why it can’t just connect directly to a motion sensor on its own. Once it’s set up, though, you can use Automations to have a Wyze Sense Motion Sensor trigger the lamp to turn on or off. It’s a bit of a roundabout way, but basically the Cam acts as the “bridge” that lets the lamp respond to other devices.

That’s apparently supposed to be the case; however, it appears that Lamp Socket v2 is not currently available for Automations Actions, as discussed in this topic:

I still haven’t seen any response to my query from Wyze, and I’m not sure if that would be relevant to @rviner407 since this topic was tagged as being about Lamp Socket v1. :man_shrugging:
