Improved Power Adapter

I am requesting an improved power adapter for the Wyze Cam OG and other Wyze Cams as 2 of my Wyze cams passed on last week. The one that is still alive was connected to a third-party Alcatel 5W 1A USB-A power adapter. The two Wyze Cams that failed were connected to Wyze’s included power adapter, indicating that the stock Wyze cam power adapter lacks power filtration and over-current protection. In other words, any noise, fluctuations on the ac circuit, is passed onto the camera. Built-in filtration and protection is standard on most brand-name phone chargers as power fluctuations and minor surges are common in most households.

I did a search on these forums and other websites to discover that I am not alone re the issue of Wyze cams failing and that the issue is quite common. Both Wyze power adapters still work and pass electricity, but the cameras do not. I want to further specify that this was not a “surge” event; all other devices in the house are fine. Only the 2 Wyze cams connected to the included Wyze power adapters are dead. I thus wanted to extend my knowledge as I have a background not only in music but also in information technology and electricity.

This is not the first incident that I have had with Wyze Cams failing, but after careful analysis, I can conclude that for the time being, I recommend users purchase 3rd-party UL, ETL, or TUV-certified band-name USB-A chargers with some form of built-in “protection”. An Apple, Samsung 5W, or 12W USB-A charger will work just fine, and both have built-in power filtration and protection circuitry. If you have accumulated any of these power adapters, use them in place of the one that came with your WyzeCam. Look at the specs on your included Wyze power adapter; if it is 5W 1A, then anything equal to that and above that will work. If your Wyze Cam’s power adapter reads anything above 5W 1A, then a 12W USB-A power adapter will work just fine. You will thank me when your Wyze Cam manages to last over 5 years instead of 1.5 years.

I am sure someone will oppose what I have to say, but my mind is made up on this one. I look forward to Wyze improving its included power adapters with power filtration and over-current protection, even if they have to add $2 more to the selling price.

It’s clear that the stock Wyze power adapters might lack adequate power filtration and protection, leading to premature camera failures. Using UL or ETL-certified third-party chargers from reputable brands like Apple or Samsung with built-in protections is a smart recommendation to improve device longevity. I agree that Wyze should upgrade their included adapters, as a small cost increase for better power stability would greatly enhance user satisfaction and prevent unnecessary replacements. Hopefully, Wyze takes this feedback seriously for future improvements.
