Half of my cameras don't record or even recognize SD cards anymore

We all get the same firmware and have the same cameras; We all don’t experience these problems.

Still not clear how you’re trying to view the SD card. Does the SD card show up ok in settings and show the available/free space, or does it say 0 space or not installed at all?

If it looks ok there, if you go to the camera live view and tap the SD card icon below it, are you able to view any recordings there? Don’t tap any events etc, just go to the regular SD card view.

Same thing here, Different locations (inside/outside), different wifi and SD card brand. Everything went ‘Failed to load from local storage’. Even the one I replaced 1 week ago, because I have spare ones. Today 2 1/2 hours on the support chat for nothing except that they will look into it ! Did someone ever had luck because I asked for Cam Plus while they figure there problems? They told me it was sent to the Senior Team and would get a reply within 24-48 hours. Really have doubts. Otherwise it’s 5 Pan Cam V3 to garbage with the rest of there products. Any options for other reliable cams ?

Thanks Yann

Are the cams not seeing the cards at all in settings or is it only when you try to view an event from the event tab that you get the error?

Does not see them at all.

Have you tried a different USB wall plug just to see if it changes anything? I’d combine that with a freshly formatted card and test on one of the problem cams. Low power can cause the SD cards to get corrupted. Perhaps a power event damaged many of your power adapters (the included ones aren’t very “robust”).

I’ve been using various brand “high endurance” cards in various versions of wyzecams, recording continuously for many years, and, have no complaints #headscratcher

Also, notice that the cards have relatively small capacities… so… the cards have been abused. I’m considering replacing them all cuz I think my luck will eventually run out.

Both situation, either it’s there but can’t format it or access footage or incompatible SD card. Same brand as the V2 or V3 garage opener wich I don’t have any problem.

Once they raised the price but i used them with sd card’s they worked flawless but once wyze cam got more popular and got establised i guess they no longer needed my usage information and now no sd card works on any camera lol. If i take it out and pop back in it may work until they see it. Its my feeling theyre disabling them and to find this thread is proof enough. What camera is everyone else going too?

Yes, this thread is concrete proof.

I have not found this to be the case, and your description of your experience makes me wonder what kind of microSD card(s) you’re using and what other details you could provide. That’s where I’d start, anyway. I’ve had a few issues with accessing microSD recordings in the past on some (certainly not all) Wyze Cams, and for the most part those have been remediated over time with bug fixes.

Hopefully at some point we’ll start to have Fix-It Fridays again so as a community we can vote on high-priority issues. Who knows if or when that will happen, though? :man_shrugging:

I have the exact same issue and I believe it’s definitely a firmware issue. I only use SanDisk Extreme cards and the cards all work in other devices. Half of my cameras randomly stopped recognizing any card size above 64GB. If I install an old 64GB card it works fine. If I install the 256GB card it’s used for the last few years or a new 128GB card it doesn’t acknowledge the cards are even installed. I’ve tried all the tricks and resets and nothing resolves the problem. Tech support needs to look into this issue. It’s definitely NOT a memory card issue.

I used to have this issue and I thought it is from sd card. But this is happening after upgrades and now OG can not recognize micro sd card. Even after replacing card which works in V4. This model is garbage. And I have seen Wyze is playing around new firmware. and either crippling V3 and creating new issues. which they are not not able to solve it.

Very strange that people have such different experiences. I’ve got the latest firmware on all my OGs now, and never once have my SD cards stopped working in an OG (I have 5 of them, one of them being the Telephoto version). Going on 2 years now with the same SD cards.

It makes me wonder if there some sort of common denominator. One thing about the OGs (and v3, v4, etc) is the power cord comes out the back and does not seem to be 100% sealed against water (which is virtually impossible to do). All mine have small drip loops in them, the cable comes out the back then immediately bends down and hooks into the base. Perhaps some don’t do that and water makes its way in (and it just happens to get noticed after the firmware update and reboot)? Dunno.

I have my Wyze cameras plugged into smart outlets (not Wyze ones) and can turn them on and off remotely if one is acting up … but I’ve also used this to have a staggered daily restart for my devices and no longer have SD card issues.

I have a mix of cams with the oldest being V3s. I bought the cards from Wyze. They were buggy as all get out and regularly stopped recording, but between firmware updates and the daily smart outlet power reset, it seems to have solved the recording issues. Now I set up all cams this way and haven’t had SD card issues on any of my newer cams

I have always wondered about that myself.

I have used Wyze cams since 2019 of various, non-motorized types. I haven’t had any issues with SD cards. Luckily, I never had a need to put them on a smart switch.

All of my cams are inside my house looking out.

My new Wyze Bulb Cam will be placed outside. Hopefully, my luck continues.

It could be “Internet Service” related…

I live in the middle of the El Dorado National Forest and only have Internet service through cellular, trees too thick and tall for Starlink currently.

So my Internet is not the best with occasional drop outs, and varying Internet speeds and latency.

WYZE Cloud based cams don’t like that I believe, and that may be the cause of corruption of SD when some sort of internet hiccup happens.

So that’s why I prefer my standalone cams that don’t require Internet to function correctly.

Once Starlink has enough satellites in LEO my required opening to the sky will be small enough to allow Starlink operation without clearing trees or going with a tree mounted dish, I check with the Starlink app and have noticed the area slowly shrinking, so some day

I am in the same boat as you at my cottage. However I haven’t had any issues with SD cards. The only issue I have is when the upload speeds drop below 2Mbps the cameras start disconnecting. Couple remote gateway reboots fixes the issue for me. It only happens once weekly/biweekly though especially when the weather changes.

That’s actually interesting since “pulling the plug” on the cam when it is writing to SD card can very easily cause corruption. While the cam may be able to ignore that file, eventually it will have an issue trying to overwrite it, or the file system could get totally corrupted. I guess if it is “motion only” recording and not recording at the time, it is fine, but you can’t really assume that will always be the case. I’d highly recommend using an automation in the Wyze app to do your staggered reboots (I just have mine go weekly, daily shouldn’t be needed, but obviously up to you) and keep the outlets just for occasional “hard” reboots if needed.

I’m starting to think it is heat related maybe, people in certain regions with the cams outside in the sun are having more issues. @ronl4625 mentioned this in another topic and a light bulb sort of went off. Inside the guts of the cam, that SD card can easily be tens of degrees hotter than the outside air temp, especially in the sun (same goes for the SD card controller inside the cam).
