I think this may actually be a Hairy Woodpecker and not a Downy. It looks like the beak is quite long for a Downy.

Thanks, I believe you are right. They do look a whole lot a like. I overlooked the long bill so I agree with you. Thanks for sharing your better observation. I was trying to decide on which one it was the first time I saw them but now I realize the bill is too long for a Downy.

Another distinct characteristic of a male Hairy Woodpecker (vs Downy) is red split into 2 patches on back of head:
