Does Wyze cam OG have color night vision?

Hello, does Wyze cam og have color night vision? Thank you

Yes, I know it sounds awkward, but disable the “night vision mode” so that the picture is in color. It’s more of a “color in low light” than a specific and not to be confused with the classic “night vision” mode.

Both of my new OGs (firmware 1.0.84) show black and white at night. When I disable “night vision mode” as you suggested it is all black. I’ve tried every combination of AUTO-ON-OFF and IR ON-IR OFF. How do I get color?

There needs to be some visible light illumination that’s covering the view of the camera. Is there any light where the camera is pointing. Your doing it right by disabling the "night vision"mode to get a color at night (or in low light).

Edit/ in either mode there needs to be some type of illumination to see, either visible or IR. When night vision mode is disabled, you need visible light to see (anything, in color) and when night vision mode is enabled, you need visible or IR lights to see (black and white).

Just to add to what Tony said since the way Wyze phrases it makes it confusing.

Night Vision On + IR LEDs On = black and white image, no ambient light needed

Night Vision On + IR LEDs Off = black and white image, some ambient light needed, if no ambient light it will be black.

Night Vision Off = Color image but Ambient light is needed (full moon, street lights, lights from windows, etc). Otherwise it will be a black or purple image.

Also, note various Wyze cameras have different low light performance. I know you have an OG, but here is a Wyze comparision of a v3 and v2 in low light.

Here is the link to the above image.

Imo should be something along the lines of “color at night” or “color in low light”, not “color night vision”. “Color night vision” term usage is confused with the current “night vision” mode and confuses folks when “night vision” needs to be disabled when “color night vision” is desired.

Yeah v2 doesn’t have a starlight sensor right? Don’t believe that one claims to have “color night vision”. From what I’ve seen on the v3, OG/OGT, and Panv3, “color night vision” image is pretty similar.

I get that the marketing folks probably decided this was the best way to sell it, but I can think of ways they could make it less confusing in the app settings at least. Obviously if you’re in looking at night vision settings and expecting “color night vision”, what is in there now is not obvious. Night mode off = color night vision is counterintuitive for those that don’t know the difference between IR illuminators and low light image sensors (which is most).

I think the v4 color looks pretty crisp at night with Night Mode Auto and IR Off.

Moved my tangent post to watercooler as that was more appropriate.

Yeah mine all look very good too. Motion does cause a bit of graininess and up close is more grainy than distant, but it is more than enough to see what needs to be seen (assuming enough ambient light).

That is the case with my v4. My OG has very low light but still performs well with color. V3s aren’t bad, but not as sensitive as the V4 and OG that I have.

From what I’ve seen the v4 requires a bit more ambient light, but a higher resolution sensor always will (until they improve the Starlight sensors). The Sony Starvis 2.0 4k sensor has incredible low light quality, even with that high resolution. But obviously much more $$$, at least until 3.0 8k comes out and the 2.0 drops in price. That’s why all the cheap dash cams can use the Starvis 1.0 now, since it dropped in price when 2 came out. But ones with 2.0 are pretty reasonably priced now too.
