Do these Wyze cams have issues detecting people through a window?

It is most likely that the Bird Feeder is not the object in the frame that is being tagged as a person.

Unfortunately, because of the way Wyze has designed their AI Engine, there is no way to definitively identify exactly what object in the FOV is being tagged. And, to make it more difficult, the AI Engine does not recognize motion.

The Cam Firmware recognizes motion and will place a motion tracking box around the motion object. This will show in the video of you turn that on. This is the Motion Trigger and any motion, determined by the amount of pixelation changes within the frame, that meets or exceeds your Sensitivity settings will activate that motion trigger. Once the cam pulls the motion trigger, the video uploads to the server.

As soon as the server starts receiving the video, it begins a frame by frame (20fps color, 15fps B&W) inspection of each individual still frame snapshot. If any object in the still frame snapshot, regardless of motion or stationary, resembles one of the selected Smart AI objects you have designated in your settings, it applies a tag and sends the push notification. Additionally, if the Motion Tracking box drawn around the object in motion is anywhere within the Included Detection Zone, that entire object is considered for tagging even if it is only partially overlapping the DZ boundaries.

The Wyze AI Engine does not mark the videos with what object has been tagged. The Cam Firmware only marks objects that are moving with the green box, but the green box has nothing to do with the AI Tagging Engine except for during the DZ Overlap logic.

Because of this, it is more than likely that there is a stationary object within the FOV of your Cam that resembles a person and that object is what is being tagged.

I had the same happen on one of my cams. For every single motion event upload, be it tree, bush, leaves, bug, dog, vehicle, shadow motion that activated the cam upload; it would always tag person. After I learned how the AI Engine worked, I began using the DZ to block out specific stationary objects one at a time… signs, trees, bushes, etc. After multiple failed attempts, I blocked out my mailbox that sits behind a small bush. The Person Event tagging stopped immediately. I found my mystery person.

Same for me, however it detected the banana tree as a person.

I have two V3 Cam Plus a little over a month old. One on my porch & another fifteen feet away pointed directly at the porch. Both see a person ( myself) I continue to test this periodically. They might be seeing the mailman & other visitors but there are never any events to view. I have set the sensitivity all the way up to 80. Any suggestions?

A couple of things to try. You might start with Detection Sensitivity at 100 and then back down if needed. I am happy with my v3 cameras set at 90.

If you are getting glare aiming through windows, you might try a Wyze window mount.

Here is a v3 Cloud video set at 90 and correctly Tagged as Person aimed through a double pane window.

V3 through a window captures this “Person” E-Biker gang just fine. Hours of the same thing.

What is your Detection Sensitivity set at?

All of my cameras are set at 100. This V3 and will also record the man across the street when he comes out to check his mailbox or get his newspaper in his driveway.

I guess I am lucky I have to stand on the sidewalk to get into my mailbox.
